Hola! This is Kasia. Here is my very short version of what would have happened if they had extended Season III for just a little longer. Enjoy!

The Choices We Make

She walked along the highway, watching the vehicles go by, her mind in a daze. Why? she questioned over and over. Why had Jean reacted this way? Well, she did have a right to, and Kris guessed that Jean was simply worried about the farm, but still. At least Raintree would safely pull through her mistakes. Even if she wouldn't.

When would she learn? She had had everything going for her. Her career as a jockey, her family at Raintree, Wildfire, and Matt. Now she had lost them all. Maybe her brother was right. Maybe the only people you could truly count on in your time of need were your real family. She really hoped that wasn't true.

She lost herself in memories; the ones she loved and dearly hoped would become reality once again. She remembered riding Wildfire, the freedom she felt as they flew around the track, two creatures temporary joined together as one. She heard the sound of his hooves pounding the track, their own staccato. As a large truck rushed past, she could almost feel the wind on her face, her hair flying out behind her, Wildfire's mane twining around it.

Memories took her to times with Jean and Pablo, working with them to get the best times out of Wildfire. Pablo had been the one who had brought her to Raintree, who had gave her a second chance in life. And she had ruined it.

But most of all she remembered Matt. She remembered his embrace, his arms encircling her. How he said her name, how he kissed her. She remembered these things vividly. Many things stood out in her mind about Matt. His surprise at the reading of his grandfather's will, his amazement as he solved the equine puzzle Henry had left behind, and his joy when she agreed to go out with him stood out clearly in her mind.

So lost was she in her memories, she didn't notice the car pulling up behind her until it almost came to a stop. She turned around, staring at the car in amazement. What was she doing here? As she walked closer to the car, she became even more confused. What was Matt doing in Jean's car?

"What are you doing here?" she asked, a smile gracing her facial features.

Matt just smiled back, opening the car door and getting out. Leaning against the car he grabbed her, pulling her to him. "Looking for you," he murmured, kissing her tenderly on the lips.

Kris pulled away slightly, resting her head against his shoulder. "Why?"

"I couldn't let you disappear," he replied, cupping the back of her head with his hand. "How would I be able to bring you home then?"

"Matt, I can't!" she protested.

"Why not, Kris?" he demanded quietly.

"Because Jean threw me out!"

"Mom overreacted," Matt stated flatly. "And besides, she only owns half of Raintree." His eyes pleaded with hers. "Come back with me."

"Matt, I don't want to come between you and your mom."

"You won't. Mom and I will work it out. But that doesn't matter right now. I need you Kris."

Her heart longed to agree with him, to return to Raintree. "But-"

Kris," Matt began, cutting off her protest. "If it doesn't work out between you and mom, I'll leave with you."

"Matt, you'd be giving up Raintree," she cried out.

"But I'd have you, and you're more than worth it. Come back with me?"

She smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I think I can do that," she agreed, pulling him close. She just hoped that her and Jean would work things out because she couldn't let Matt give up Raintree.

He smiled, and she saw the happiness in his eyes. "I love you," he told her, running his thumb along her jaw line.

"I love you too," she answered, bringing her lips up to meet his.
