None of these characters belong to me, they belong to their rightful owners (Rockstar, Team Bondi, etc)

The sun was shining in L.A. The opposite of a dark and stormy night. District Attorney's investigator, Jack Kelso, thought that was a bad sign. The office was quiet. No big cases for him. In fact, he hasn't been shot at for days. The paranoia must've began five months ago. That was when the "Suburban Redevelopment Fund" fiasco happened. The loss of old friends changed him. Jack thought taking the DA's investigator job would make up for it. He could take out the corrupt and put the men to rest. At least, that's what he thought.

He continuously clicked his pen, waiting for trouble to come through the door. Suddenly, the door creaked open. Jack cautiously reached for his gun in the desk. He aimed at the visitor walking in.

"Oh hey Kelso, I need-Holy shit!" Petersen yelped. "Five months of the job and you already turn homicidal!"

"Sorry…I've been just…paranoid." Jack scratched the back of his head and put the gun back inside his desk. He hadn't had much "human contact" in days.

"Look, I know this job is stressful but there's no need to try and SHOOT ME!" The DA put his hands in the air. "And do you always keep a gun in your desk?"

"A gun?"

"…" Petersen shook his head and face-palmed. "Ugh, anyway, I need to talk with you about something."

Jack nodded and sat down. "Sure, but in my defense, he jumped in front of my car." Jack smirked as he saw Petersen's look of horror. "Kidding, go on."

"Haha." Leonard rolled his eyes. "What I've noticed that you've been put into tight situations a lot."

"As in?"

"You've been stuffed into too many trunks of cars, pushed off too many bridges and burned many bridges, in both a literal and metaphorical sense! Jack, you never call for back-up."

"I don't want to burden people." Jack actually wasn't kidding.

"Do you know what this means?"

"I have to claim 'shotgun' instead of 'trunk'?"

"We need to find you a partner. Meaning, you need to find you a partner." Kelso brightened up at this. It's been along time since he was part of a team. He got to choose his own partner too.

"Anyone?"

"Wait." The DA pointed at him. "I want a person who can get the job done not some random idiot you met at a bar. No crazy people either. Make sure he can drive. You need someone who can, considering your track record. Now if you excuse me, I have some business to take care of."

"Translation: You need a drink." Jack grinned.

"Smart boy. And get a partner by next week."

Jack knew just the one.
