The Call

Author's Notes: This is the first time I've ever written anything so any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. This is set shortly after final confirmation of the wraith armada is given.
For one of them it was the call of duty. Of an oath taken years before. To protect his country and, by extension, his world. To follow and respect the chain of command. In short, to go where, when and how he was told.
For one of them it was the call of science. The dream of what a new Galaxy could teach. Of what the Ancients had learned, and hidden. The dream of becoming the undisputed world expert in his field. The call of science, and of ambition.
For one of them it was the call of principle, born of the conviction that soldiers did not make the best ambassadors for mankind. The conviction that exploration and discovery should not be entirely weapon focussed. That man had a lot to offer, but also a lot to learn.
For the three people standing in the briefing room faced with the terrifying enormity of their situation everything changed in a second. Their reasons and motives for coming faded into the background, subsumed by a single new call – survival.
