a/n- this takes place in their seventh year. Am I forgetting something? Yeah, I don't own Harry Potter.
"Lily! Lily! Wait up!" the tall figure of Alice called out to a girl with flaming red hair. Turning around to face the source of the voice, Lily found herself facing her fellow Gryffindor and best friend.
"There you are! I was searching for you everywhere! Besides, where are you going?"
"I, err, was just going to the⦠greenhouses." Lily lied. She was no good at lying. Alice surveyed her friend trying to find a loophole in her response. Fortunately for Lily Evans, the familiar voice of Frank Longbottom echoed through the deserted corridor.
"Alice sweetheart!"
"I'm coming Frank!" she called back. Giving Lily a smile as if to say I've-got-to-go she jogged of to meet her boyfriend.
Lily heaved a great sigh. That was definitely a close call.
The usually busy grounds of Hogwarts were unusually quiet today. Most of the students were packing as the end of term was'nt far. She took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. The smell of fresh dew and wet earth mingled with sweet smelling wild flowers. She made her way towards her favorite spot, a place concealed by rocks and lined with soft grass along the edge of the lake. Sitting down, the Gryffindor and gazed at the sun which was setting behind the hills. The sky was a magical combination of soft orange, gold and baby pink. She was really going to miss all of this. Every single bit of it. She closed her eyes, lost in a memory when the voice of the person broke the spell. It was the voice of a person she wanted to see least yet most. It was the unmistakable voice of James Potter.
"Fancy seeing you here Evans"
"You too, Potter" She replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Ignoring her, James climbed down the tree on which he sat and settled himself beside her.
"What brings you here?" He asked.
"I always loved watching the sunset from here. Just wanted to see this place one last time."
"Yeah, I'm gonna miss Hogwarts a lot too."
She closed her eyes lost in time. He didn't disturb her as he looked longingly at her red locks, thinking when the day would come when she would let him stroke it.
Lily's voice broke the silence, ending the trance.
"So Potter, how many rules do you think you've broken?"
He threw his head back and laughed. A smile tugged her lips. She loved his laugh, the way it lit up his whole face and made you want to laugh along. She'd hate to admit it but she would probably miss that face the most.
"I dunno. I mean could be anywhere between a hundred and two hundred."
"I thought so." She replied, smiling.
"What about you miss-goody-two-shoes?" He teased.
"Me? lets see. I broke rule 21, to give an assignment late and number 32,to be out of bed after lights out without a proper note stating that I have detention, or have been requested by a teacher or in a case in which it is an emergency or I require medical help."
"Jeez Evans, did you memorize the rule book?"
She rolled her eyes.
"So I guess that brings your grand total upto two broken rules." He said triumphantly.
"Wait I think I'm breaking one more rule. Rule number 342. One I'd promised myself I'd never break."
"And that is?"
" To fall in love with James Potter."
Without giving him time to react, she gently pressed her lips against his.
