A/N: Gaara and Naruto are the characters in this oneshot. Water was the word used. I'm tempted to write an actual fic from this, but I'm still struggling to finish the one I've already started. Kind of a fluffy little oneshot about their friendship. AU
Disclaimer: I really do wish that I owned Naruto, but I'm not yet delusional or rich.
Gaara didn't talk much, at all. Even Neji, Shino, and Sasuke-teme spoke more than the redheaded Kazekage. That didn't really bother Naruto, since the blonde had learned from a very young age how to interpret silences of all kind. He even knew how to translate what was left unsaid, having had practice with his constant dealings as a shinobi, as well as being friends with Neji, Shino, and Sasuke-teme.
Despite his appearance of an idiot, Naruto was amazingly observant. It was the few moment that he acted on his observations that caused many to reevaluate their opinions of him. Not that Naruto cared, since he was remarkably dense when it came to some things. But, he had his moments of brilliance, which had led to the request he had received.
With the threats of Akatsuki and Orochimaru gone, Kankurou and Temari had approached him with a request. They wanted him to take Gaara on a short vacation. Since the Godaime had fussed at him to take a vacation of his own, he had agreed to the request. It would only be fore two weeks, which limited his option of places to go. Naruto had finally decided on a place after careful consideration. He was sure that Gaara would like it, and he would finally be able to keep a promise he had made years ago.
Standing upon the bridge that bore his name, Naruto couldn't stop himself from grinning widely. He had seen the fascination in his friend's eyes every time he visited the forests of Konoha. He was able to understand that fascination, since he also found himself entranced by the deserts surrounding Suna. It had amazed him at seeing so much life in the seemingly lifeless terrain. Gaara's amazement came from the vast abundance of life he could easily see.
Seeing the small smile on Gaara's face, Naruto grinned even wider. Trees and generally green things were rarely seen in Suna. Since Gaara got to see them every time he visited Konoha, Naruto had chosen a place that held something else that was rare in Suna. Water. Wave was the closest place where he could achieve his goal. He also had the added bonus of visiting Inari.
Curiosity getting the better of him, Naruto grabbed Gaara's hand and dragged them both over the side of the bridge. He couldn't learn if Gaara knew how to swim unless they were in the water. With a large splash, they landed. Treading water, Naruto couldn't stop his laughter as Gaara clung to him. It would seem that he would be giving Suna's Kazekage a few swimming lessons during their vacation.
