My name is Luna.
I'm sixteen years old.
I've just moved to La Push.
What awaits me? No one knows.
"Baby, wake up." Mom called from the front of the car, "We're here." I opened my eyes to find her smiling over the center console at me. I tried my hardest to smile back. I didn't want to be here, moving was that last thing I wanted but I did it for my mom, the only person in my life that meant the absolute world to me. "I'm sorry Lu,"She whispered.
"Mom, we needed to do this, for you."
"I know baby, but.." She trailed off looking out the window, I followed her gaze to our new house. It was smaller than what we had in California, but it was pretty, It has a bright red door, and little shutters on the windows, and a porch swing. It definitely belonged here, and the forest behind it just made it look that much more homely.
"Honestly mom, I'm fine. We needed a new start." She smiled at me again. "I'll like it here, I just know it."
We both climbed out the car and started to empty the trunk in silence bringing the boxes up to the house, the furniture was coming in a removal truck in the next few days so the boxes was what we had for now. I had walked up to the house a few times dumping the stuff on the porch when I felt a set of eyes watching me, I stopped halfway between the house and the car and scanned the area carefully.
It didn't take much for me to notice the three boys standing on the curb side, one waved at me gently and approached me.
"Hi," He smiled sweetly. "I'm Embry, I'm guessing you're my new neighbors."
"Uh yeah," I mumbled looking up at him. He was daunting, fair enough he looked like a boy standing on the curbside with his friends but once he approached me, he grew, he was at least a foot and half taller then me, and definitely worked out, he was massive. "I'm Luna," He smiled at me. "I've just moved here with my mom."
"Just your mom?" He asked.
"Yeah, it's just the two of us. Has been for awhile."
"Yeah, it's just myself and my mom." I liked Embry, I decided there and then. I hadn't noticed the other two boys had moved closed to us, one was a little chubbier but you could still tell he worked out. Embry noticed me looking over at them. "Oh sorry, this is Quil," He pointed to the chubbier one and he waved at me excitedly. "And that's Seth." I turned and looked at the other boy, he looked too tall for his age and a little too gangly but he was built like the other not as muscly but you could definitely see definition under his shirt. Seth just stood there smiling at me and I couldn't help but smile make, unconsciously I took a step towards him and he mirrored my movement. "Oh, shi-." Embry said under his breath. "Well anyway I just thought I'd just say hey," Embry pulled my attention back to him, "And I wondered if you would like any help with your stuff?" He asked.
"Honestly I'm fine," I looked back at Embry and smiled. "Our big stuff is coming in a few days, this stuff," I gestured towards the car. "Is just the essential stuff like clothes and stuff." I rambled my attention pulled back to Seth.
"If you're sure." He smiled at me again. "Let me know if you need help with the other stuff when it arrives, I'm happy to help."
"Thank you Embry."
"Making friends?" My mom called from the porch. Embry laughed and turned to look her way, I laughed too.
"This is the new neighbor," I called back to her. "This is Embry, Quil and Seth." My mom hopped down the porch steps and walked towards us.
"Well hello," She winked at me briefly before turning towards Embry. "Nice to meet you all," She waved at Quil and Seth that had moved a little closer but were still keeping there distance.
"You too, "Embry flashed his teeth at us, "I was just saying hello and welcome to La Push."
My first week in La Push flew by, I was right. I liked it here. It was such a nice community, everyone knew everyone. I barely knew the people that lived in the same street as us in California but being here a week I knew some people. I had met some more of Embry's friends, in passing but lets me honest it would make starting school a lot easier knowing some faces.
To his word, Embry came back to help us with our furniture when it turned up, bringing Quil with him and a new face, Jacob. It made it a lot easier and faster getting everything inside but our pantry took a hit, they worked for free but I offered to pay them in food. Did I regret that decision.
"Hey neighbor!" I looked up from my seat on the porch swing and Embry was walking past.
"Hey Em," He turned and walked up the path.
"I hear your joining us tomorrow?" I looked at him puzzled. "School?" He smiled at me taking a seat next to me on the swing.
"Oh yeah, is it hell?" I asked.
"It's worse." He teased.
"Yay," I mumbled sarcastically.
"You'll be fine." He smiled nudging his knee into mine.
"Uh, I suppose. I'm just nervous."
"Why? You already know people. You'll be fine."
"Yeah, I know people." I smiled. "But you're the year above me, I need to make friends in my classes too."
"Seth is in your year," I smiled at Seths name and it didn't go unnoticed from Embry who smiled too. "He's a great kid, you'll be fine. I can walk with you in the morning? New kid shouldn't turn up alone."
"I'd like that Embry, thank you." He smiled at me.
"Sure thing neighbor." He jumped up from his seat and down the porch steps.
"Embry!" I called, "I have a name, you know that right?" I teased.
"Yeah, sorry Luna." He chuckled.
"See ya later neighbor." He laughed again and walked across the street to his house, he waved before going inside.
There was a knock at the door early the next morning. I had slept terribly the night before, and all I could blame was the nerves. I was getting used to the rain, it soothed me somehow, I don't know why but it did. I stood from the table and walked towards the door but my mom beat me there.
"Well good morning Embry."
"Good morning." I could hear the smile in his voice, "I'm sorry I'm early. I just thought Luna would like to get there early to sort out her schedule and stuff."
"She's in the kitchen," My mom waved him in.
"Thanks." He murmured as he walked through to find me. "Morning Luna!" He smiled a toothy smile at me.
My eyebrows shot up as I looked up at him. "Good morning neighbor!" I winked at him and he chuckled softly.
"Are you ready?" He asked.
"Uh,"
"Luna, you'll be fine." He reminded me.
"Okay, let's go neighbor."
"Okay, I get it. No more neighbor." I smiled up at him as I walked past to get my bag from the other room. I grabbed my bag and turned to get Embry but he was right behind me, I jumped. "Jesus Embry."
"Sorry," He chuckled. "Let's go."
We walked to school in silence,my silence was due to the nerves, Embry's I'm not so sure about. He seemed more fidgety this morning. "You okay Em?" I asked, smiling over at him in reassurance.
"Uh yeah, sure. I'm fine." He said. "Do you mind of some of the guys walk with us?" He asked.
"Uh no,"I smiled at him again. "That'll be fine." He pulled out his phone and text someone.
"Thanks Luna. Some of them are nervous to see you again?"
"What? Why? Who?" I asked, confused.
"It's a long stor-," He started to say and then changed his mind. "I don't know." He laughed. "Seth just gets nervous around girls."
"Seth?" I asked. "I've met him once, how can he be nervous to see me again?"
Embry laughed again. "Maybe he thinks you bite or something." He teased.
"Well you know I don't." I winked at him rounding the corner I noticed Quil, Seth and Jacob standing there waiting for us.
"What's up guys?" Embry said.
"Good morning boys." I smiled at them all.
"Hello," Quil said happily pulling me into a hug. "How you doin'?" He asked.
"Quil, why are you always so handsy?"Jacob asked chuckling at my attempts to get out of Quils grasp. "Morning Luna." He smiled at me and took my hands pulling me out of Quils arms.
"Thank you I felt like a boa constrictor was around my waist." They all laughed at me.
"Hey Luna," Seth said quietly from behind me, I gasped at the sound of his voice and turned to look at him. "How are you feeling about your first day?"
I couldn't help myself and smiled brightly at him, "Seth," I whispered stepping towards him, he smiled back at me.
"Come on, we'll be late at this rate." Embry said pushing past the boys and walking in the direction of school, I was pulled back to earth and smiled sheepishly at them.
"Hey Seth," I smiled over at him again, following behind the other boys. "I'm okay, just nervous."
He trotted up beside me, close enough that our arms were touching. "Don't be nervous, you're walking into school with the biggest guys in there, no one will mess with you."
I laughed. "I'm not worried about that," I winked at him. "What if no one likes me?"
"People will like you," He said softly, looking down at me with friendly eyes. "I got your back too, we have classes together."
"Thanks Seth." I grinned at him and he grinned back. I looked at him, like properly looked at him. He was beautiful.
"Uh, Luna." Someone nudged me softly.
"Uh what?" I asked pulling away from Seth.
Everyone laughed at me. "I said Welcome to La Push High." He chuckled, "The home of the wolves," He winked at me, all of them froze and waited for my reaction. "And all the school cheer and shit." He said.
"Woo, go team," I cheered enthusiastically, but failed tremendously. They all laughed at me again.
"Do you want me to show you to the main office to get your schedule and stuff?" Seth asked politely.
"Uh yeah," I smiled at him and then turned to look at the other boys. "I'll see you guys later." They all stood there grinning at me, like the cats who had got the cream, I looked at them puzzled before turning to Seth who was holding out his hand.
I smiled at him sweetly, ignoring his hand. "Let's go."
He dropped his hand and his smile dropped. "This way." He said, trying to get his facial expression under control. We walked away from the other boys who were not quietly chuckling behind us. "I'm sorry." He mumbled turning the corner of the building once the others were out of view.
"What for?" I asked, pulling him to a stop.
"The whole hand thing," He mumbled looking down at the floor. "I'm sorry."
"Seth," I sighed reaching for his hand. "It's fine."
"No, it's not." He squeezed my hand gently. "It's a bit forward." He sighed finally looking up to find my eyes. It was the first time I really looked into his eyes, and I took a step closer, he smiled at me brightly and I couldn't help but smile back at him. "I'm sorry," He said again, his face only a few inches away from mine now. "You just do something to me, I feel like I've known you forever." I was still smiling up at him, and he was right. I felt like I had know Seth my whole life. I looked into his eyes again and they were different this time. He looked at me differently, like I was his reason for living, like I was the only thing that held him to earth.
I suddenly realised what was going to happen and stepped back from him, dropping his eyes. "Seth," I sighed looking down at the floor. "I can't do this. I've been in La Push a week. I can't get wrapped up in something so soon."
"So you feel something too?" He asked placing a finger under my chin making me look up at him again.
"Yes, of course I do," I smiled again. "But it's not the right time Seth."
"Okay," He smiled, the smile didn't quite reach his eyes
"Seth," I sighed. "I'm not saying no. I've just been in La Push a week, I met you a week and half ago, this is the second time I've seen you. I've made no other friends other than you and the three musketeers." He chuckled at the name for the others. "I need time Seth, I'm not saying no, because I feel everything you feel too. Just time Seth, please?"
"Okay," He said again. "I'll be here. When you're ready, if you're ever ready." He smiled sweetly at me.
"Thank you Seth. I'll let you know when I'm ready." He grinned at me again, pulling me into a hug, a big bear hug. "Seth," I choked out. "Can't breath."
He laughed, "I'm sorry. Let's go get your schedule and locker assignment." He said enthusiastically, pulling me by my hand.
