A/N: Huge thanks to my darling betas Shay and Sheri for helping me with this and telling me it's not crap even though it was.
The radio starts. Heat of the moment. He looks around to see if Dean is head-bopping to the song. But he doesn't see it. He'll never see it. Dean's dead.
He doesn't know which is worse; those Tuesdays where he saw Dean die everyday or now when he knows that Dean won't be coming back. Maybe he should have never caught up with the Trickster. It wasn't any worse than how it is now. Admittedly, he doesn't have to see Dean dying anymore but at least he knew there'd be another Tuesday and Dean would be alive again. Now he knows Dean's gone. And nothing he had done had changed that. He had tried and tried but the hellhounds got to him anyway. And since then, nothing.
The last of his family is gone; taken away by the same things that took his mother, and later, his father. He's all alone. Maybe it's time to leave it all behind, start anew. Nobody would question him or call him a quitter. But he can't do that; not to Dad and definitely not to Dean. So he'll keep hunting because it's what Dean would want him to do. What Dean wouldn't want him to do was try to get him out of Hell even if it meant risking his own life. But at the moment, Sam doesn't care. He's sick and tired and knows that he can't do this alone. He needs Dean. He needs his brother. And if nothing else works out, he'll just open the damn Devil's gate and wait for Dean to climb the hell out. Screw whatever demons got out. Dean could take care of them later.
But he's decided to try one of the saner ideas first.
So here he is, travelling from motel to motel, one town to the other, saving people, hunting things, and all the while, thinking of ways, methods, and things he can do to get Dean out. Save him. Like Dean had saved him. It's Sam's turn now. And whatever happens, he will save Dean.
Even if it means waking up to Asia and seeing Dean lip-synching to 'Heat of the Moment' every day for the rest of his life.
