Hey guys! This is my first fic ever, so please bear with me here. Ever since I watched the first episode of Into the Badlands, I really liked the pairing of Jade and Ryder. Although I love Into the Badlands and all of the characters that are in the show, I do not own any of them. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to read my little story, so thank you so much. I would really appreciate reviews, good or bad. :) Happy New Year!
She stood, behind the thick curtain, watching them carry him in through the window in his bedroom. She came there every other day for the past seventy-something days and pretended to be doing some cleaning or another necessary chore. As the first week went by, she would come up to his room late at night and smell his shirts that still had his distinct scent on them, but nowadays that scent wasn't there anymore.
He was strung over the shoulders of the regent, surrounded by clippers. They were carrying him in like a sack of potatoes through the corridor and up the steps to his room. She quickly tried to exit the room before it was crowded with the men, but she was too late. They carelessly threw him down on the bed as she backed into the corner, trying to avoid bumping into anyone. As they departed without saying a word to her, she took one long look upon his limp body. There were so many deep cuts on his limbs, which she knew would become scars. His loose white shirt was covered in sweat and crimson liquid. As her eyes travelled down his blank pants, she say his foot. It was horribly mutilated. She couldn't believe that someone would do that do this sweet boy, a man nearly.
Just as she was about to grace her hand upon his cheek, his mother walked in.
"You may leave now." Lydia retorted. Jade knew that she could leave, but she wanted to stay so badly. She wanted to be the one who watched over him and protected him as he slept. Jade wanted to be the first one who he saw when he woke. She wanted to be the only one to comfort and care for him when he was conscious, but she knew that she couldn't. It would be horrible if the baron and the baroness discovered their relationship. What would they do if they found out that their son was romantically involved with a cog? She didn't want to imagine.
Therefore, Jade slowly brought her gaze from Ryder to the floor.
"Yes, Baroness." Jade spoke quietly, as she brushed past Lydia. Once she finally reached the hall she could feel a single tear streaming down her cheek. She didn't know if she was crying because she was so happy that Ryder was finally home, or if she was crying because she was so sad that she couldn't spend the rest of the day alone with him. She was filled with mixed emotions as she watched her second and third tear hit the hardwood floor beneath her feet. As she brushed the tears that hadn't reached the end of her face yet, she heard someone coming up the steps. It was Quinn. Jade hadn't expected him to be up to see Ryder so soon; as he hadn't been in too much of a hurry to pay the ransom for Ryder.
A great part of her hated him for it, but she knew that she still had to respect him because he was the baron.
"Baron." She said as he walked past her, starring deeply into her eyes.
"Jade." Quinn said his slick and sly tone that she had now gotten herself used to since she started working as a house cog. Once he was finally inside the doorway, she briskly walked down the staircase to the kitchen. There she continued her tasks and hoped that everyone except a conscious Ryder would be out of his room by midnight; then she could finally visit him and have the reunion she had been dreaming of since he was taken.
