The Bei Fong Family Secret
Sokka stood up, grabbing his boomerang as he did, "I going to go hunt something for dinner."
"Hey Sokka."
"Yeah Toph?"
"Did I ever tell you how my family got so rich?" the young blind girl asked the Water Tribe warrior.
"Can it wait?" Sokka answered.
"No. My great-grandfather started out as a hunter. Our entire family fortune came from his secret for hunting rabbiroos." Toph paused her tale to see how interested Sokka was.
"Wait, your entire family fortune started from hunting? Toph, you have to tell me the family secret!"
Toph knew she would get his attention but she had now idea Sokka would get so excited. Through the ground she could feel the rhythm of his heart with her earthbending. It felt as if his heart would soon burst from his chest in anticipation. She smiled inwardly. Her prey had taken the bait. Now it was time to spring the trap.
"I'll tell, seeing as how we're friends and all, but only if you swear a warrior's oath of honor never to tell anyone else about this." Toph pointed in Sokka's general direction for emphasis.
Sokka dropped to one knee and held out his precious boomerang ceremoniously. "I, Sokka, make this warrior's oath of honor pledge to you, Toph Bei Fong. I will never tell another person the Bei Fong family secret of hunting rabbiroos."
"Okay then, here's what you do," Toph began. Sokka leaned in close to her to hear the secret that made the Bei Fong family the richest people in the world. "Go into the forest, hide behind a big tree and make a sound like a cabbage."
"Hide, and then make a sound like a cabbage. I got it," Sokka repeated.
"Be ready, because this will bring every rabbiroo for at least a mile," Toph warned.
"Don't worry," Sokka hefted his boomerang to show just how ready he was, even if Toph couldn't see it. He turned and sped into the woods, ready to hunt.
Aang turned and looked at Katara from the other side of the fire from Toph. Katara began counting out loud as her brother, Sokka, disappeared into the forest. "One, two, three, four, fi…"
"HEY!" Sokka screamed.
