There he stood, his bloodied katana gripped in his hand with yet another fallen man lying before him. He was losing a slight bit of his sanity for every man he has murdered, and he knew this. Attempting to remain calm, he returned from his mission. As he went into his room of the building he was staying at since his parents died, there was a mysterious girl in there. The room was dark and he could not tell who it could have been. He then asked, "Who is this? Show yourself!" The lights flicked on and there was but a mere young child standing before him. With that innocent face, the girl spoke. "I'm sorry. I have nowhere else to go...should I leave?" He was battling in his mind to decide if the girl would stay. He then unsheathed his katana and, with a slight hesitation, striked it at the girl.
As the katana reached the young girl's head, just above it, he abruptly stopped. He didn't excatly know why, but he did not wish for the grl to die. Instead, as he sheathed his katana, he asked "So what's your name, little girl?" The girl looked up at him in shock, then she finally answered, "My name? It's Kimiko!" "Kimiko, huh?", he started, "Nice to meet you, i'm..." He then stopped, as he didn't want to accidently give out any secret information about the Choshu clan. Kimiko then pondered on what his name was, she was a curious girl. She grabbed him and asked, with a sweet smile, like the big one you see when a crazed serial killer grins trying to say that he's innocent "I'm sorry. What was that? I don't think you said what your name is." He then stood there, staring at the girl. "She's a persistant one", he thought. There was a sudden smile on his face as he said " Yes, i'm sorry about that. My name is Kenshin." That was the first time he has ever revealed his name, Kenshin.
So Kimiko stayed at the building to live in Kenshin's room. Kenshin would come every night after his assasination missions to check up on her. Each time Kenshin came home, it was without another missing piece to the puzzle that put together his sanity. One night, when Kenshin got home to do his rutine check, he had begin to lose so much of his sanity that he could not tell his enemies from his allies. There was a strange cold glint in his eyes that Kimiko had seen as Kenshin unsheathed his katana. Kimiko did not know what to do, so she just stood there, her eyes widening wider and wider as Kenshin got closer.
Kenshin striked his katana at Kimiko. As it was about to hit Kimiko, Kogoro Katsura, the leader of the Choshu clan, got in between them and he got hit instead. "What do you think...you're doing...?", Kogoro had said as his final words. Kenshin, even with his mind clogged with insanity, had reconized who he just killed. His hand was trembling with his katana, which had been stained by even more blood and the life of an innocent victim, in it. Kenshin kneeled down and bursted out crying. Kimiko was still standing there, trying to find out what had just happened. She was too young to understand, so she was crying before the dead body of Kogoro Katsura beside Kenshin.
