Fortuity

It only takes one jump
and then you're falling.

You feel your heart drop,
and then you're reaching for the sides...

You can't grab on to what you've lost
The slick steel walls fly past and cross
Disillusioned figures cry
Creeping past you in the sky

You're standing but have no ground
Falling still, but make no sound
Milliseconds stretch to days
Wind rips into your rib cage
You hear the crack but feel no pain
See the blood but dodge the train
Find your focus, shed a tear
Speak once more for all to hear

It's closer now, the ground below
Sidewalks where crude masses grow

They all glance up and freeze like deer

Faces that you know appear...

You panic, flail, shoo them off

Time speeds up, there's not enough

Hands fly up to shield your face

I didn't mean to hurt them...
