Summery: Mark knows how he feels about Roger, but this is how he figures it.

This is how Mark figures it.
He knows Roger has AIDS. He knows Roger isn't going to live as long as he wants him to, so he doesn't say anything.
He doesn't say anything when Roger asks if he's okay, because he seems down. He doesn't say anything when Roger accidentally brushes his hand against Mark's. He doesn't say anything when Roger tells him he's going downstairs to see Mimi, he'll be back later.
See, Mimi makes Roger happy. A pale, dorky filmmaker has nothing against a thin, exotic dancer. In Roger's last days, he needs to be happy. If for some reason Mark were to tell Roger his feelings, their friendship would be ruined. Roger is straight. And Markā¦Mark doesn't know what he is.
Mark wants to be there, holding Roger's hand when he dies. If he told Roger his feelings, it would've been awkward to hold his hand. That's why he figures he'll never tell Roger. He'll never tell Roger he's in love with him.
This is how Mark figures it.
Little does he know, Roger figures the same thing.
