Every God Gets His Day
Authors Note:
Warning. Numerous deaths.I was inspired to write this when I heard the Twin Towers were bombed. I thought
"That's where mom and dad used to work before they got switched here."
"Wait! Not everyone was switched here!"
This is to the friends of my family, who were in the twin towers when the planes hit.
I don't know their situation yet. I am waiting to find out.
Good-byes
Alanna the Lioness kissed her husband and children goodbye as she led the Western 26th infantry unit. George embraced his children with a few words, as they all headed out to different regiments.
Kelandry looked up from her map. The person casting a shadow on it was Neal. She let her Yamani etiquette bleed off and threw her weight into an embrace. They sat down in each other's arms crying.
Lord Wyldon says there is a time for reason and a time for heroics. Only where there is no reason, is there time for heroics. He shakes the hands of all the pages, squires, majesties, nobles and rode into the distant sun on his horse. A tear drips off his face.
Raoul and Buri stood front center of their two mass of infantry. They grasp each other's hands. Raoul blows a horn and they both part in separate directions.
Bleary-eyed Owen pounded Cleon on the back. A horn sounded and they went to join their regiments.
Kalasin, dresses in armor and holding her blade, desperately tries to pry of the magical bonds restraining her,
Thayet and her children part. They tell Jon goodbye in a scrying mirror.
The Black God Does His Woeful Duties
The first of the machines comes over the horizon. It shoots laser beams, ripping through everything in its wake. Four more. In two minutes the entire Western regiment is dead.
I brace my self, knowing the condition of each and every muscle in my body. I see the robots. Shooting with their lasers, men and women fall everywhere. I see it coming.
I love you
A light sears the Lioness in half. Her eyes are closed, her face is pale. Her lips curve in a faint smile as the black god carries her away
Kelandry and Neal hold hands. They drop their weapons. The enemy is unstoppable. It has no emotion.
Never apart
Kel and Neals souls fly free of their bodies. Hand in hand forever.
Wyldon drops off his horse. He dashes madly to the robots, at the last second he grasps his sword about to throw it into the machine.
Fight to the death
Wyldon greets the Black God with his hand on his sword.
Raoul rides toward the giant machine. His horse is cut from under him.
For honor
He falls to the grounds. A line of blood through his abdomen.
Buri opens her hand to find a small ring. Her eyes well up as she slips it on her finger. She opens her mouth to sing a song of hope to the gods.
Leave me
Her voice is cut off by a red beam.
Owen lifts his chin to the sky.
I'm joining you
He hugs his parents tight.
Cleon shifts on his horse. Dreamily.
I will miss you
He stares at his saddle horn. Not wanting to look at the truth.
Thayet huddles over her daughter. The machines are heard in the distance. The palace walls buckle, and she whispers with the force of a scream.
Take me first
She sighs. Coolness floods over her.
The horrible creaking noises. Emotions>
I want to fight!
Kalasin drops from the magical grips to fall into her mother's lap.
Jon, king of Tortall. If flesh cannot take them. The earth cannot swallow them. The gods cannot over power them. They see no emotion. Then it is truly the end
The only evil is not in the Human.
