"Percy, it's too much." Annabeth said,

That was... he couldn't find the word. It was unexpected, but it wasn't unforeseen. It took him by surprise, but it wasn't out of the blue.

He tested his relationship and it failed.

He wasn't going to be bitter about it though. He had long accepted the possibility.

It happened sooner than he expected though. He expected it to happen in maybe five or ideally ten years. But not four.

"Okay Annabeth, I understand. Go live your life. I will move on as you already have." Percy said,

Annabeth looked shocked. She was probably wondering how he knew...

"Believe me Annabeth, I am smarter than I let on. Much smarter." Percy said, already walking away. Not even looking back. He knew what he would do.

The gods wrote him a check. He intended to cash in.

Percy Jackson rubbed the grime off of the medallion he carried with his thumb. A single god flashed in. Zeus, the king. When he had been promised the award of immortality Percy decided to wait and age a few more years before he made his acsention.

When the age gap became too large for her, Annabeth cut the line. Percy gave her ten years, if she asked him to take his immortality after that he would have said yes, and they would have continued their relationship as normal. But it was more than that. He also knew she was pursuing another man. Someone he hoped would make her happy. He also now knew that their relationship was nothing but fun to her. He had taken enough clues, and overhead enough conversations to believe otherwise.

"Perseus." The King stated,

Percy knelt.

"My Lord," Percy said, "I believe you know the reason of my request of your presence."

"I do." Zeus replied.

"May I-" Percy started.

"It has already been done." Zeus interrupted.

"Then I ask a favor." Percy said,

"Anything for our savior." Zeus replied, going from business like to a more... kind tone.

"I need a fight." Percy said,

"Excuse me?" Zeus asked, confused.

"It is my purpose. As a demigod I was bred for war. Now that we are in a time of peace I have nothing to do. No fight to fight. Give me a purpose. Give me a fight." Percy requested.

"I know just the thing." Zeus said.

It was only after a few years of training with guns and martial arts that he gained his immortality. Olympus needed someone with deep connections inside the U.S. government. He was sent here. To be a U.S. Marshal. Ares had streamlined the application process. The background check, the resumé, the FIT exam, the written portion, everything. He went straight to the academy.

Upon graduation he assigned to be Marshal. One of 94. He was given his own task force of 5 others. To deal with "hyperspectral anomalies" which Percy knew were monsters. But the thermal scopes could see through the mist while mortal eyes can't.

His unit AAST (Anti-Anomaly Strike Team) was to being in the anomalies for questioning, but to use lethal force it necessary. They used a special bronze alloy in their bullets. It wasn't as effective as celestial bronze which could kill a monster in a single cut. But it worked well enough for usage. His unit was also given special M4-SL rifles that had thermal scopes and tact lights modified to give infared light out so they could see through the mist enough to know where to shoot.

They were currently tracking an Anomaly in were in a forest a few miles out of Helena when Percy noticed something. He put his fist up and his team stopped. He extended his pointer and middle finger from the fist, and they silently got on one knee in an arrow shape with Percy at the head. All of them looking through their thermal scopes.

Tracks.

He pointed his fingers forward. Which signaled for them to follow him and maintain formation. They neared a cave and found at the enterance nothing but golden monster dust and a few silver arrows.

"Stop." Percy wispered. The only verbal command given. As they had been silent up until this point.

"Stop." He said in a louder voice.

Everyone stopped. And Percy picked up a silver arrow.

"What's got you so spooked boss?" Darius asked. He was the perfect soldier. He knew when to act serious and when to act normal. When to lie and when to stretch the truth. And he insisted on calling Percy boss.

"This." Percy said, holding up the arrow.

"Someone else has killed what we where tracking." Darius finished.

"Exactly." Percy said,

"But look at the angles. The step patterns. This not just one person, this was a group." Jessica said, she was the criminal investigator, the forensics specialist.

They walked out of the cave and Percy sensed something was off. He looked around and saw brief flashes of silver all around them.

Of course. They were still here.

Well, all he had to do was get his team out of her and with some luck they would survive.
