You walk slowly along the street, kicking along a rock that conveniently happened to be sitting on the sidewalk. You bite your lip, trying not to feel it too much. You're staring at the ground, hood up, and then you glance up for a moment to make sure you're going in the right direction. The hollow cavity where your heart is hurts too much for your brain to work, so instead of sub-consciously making your way home like normal, you have to work at remembering which street to turn on to. Unbeknownst to you, there's a girl watching you- and following you. Her eyebrows are furrowed, and her face is taut with worry. You don't even look up as she starts walking next to you, and then you don't even look up when she nudges you with her elbow.

"Randy," she says, grabbing his wrist. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," you say, sighing. She frowns for a moment, before hauling you closer to her.

"I don't think you are okay," she replies, putting her hands on your shoulders and twisting you around until you're facing her. You slowly look up at her, your light blue eyes meeting her dark blue. "C'mon," she says. "You can tell me what's wrong. You don't want to get stanked, do you?" You sigh again, knowing she's right.

"Howard's… Really, really… Mad at me… For some stuff that I don't have any control over," you reply, grimacing and looking away. "It's stuff… That gets in the way… Of us spending time together."

"Hey, just make sure he knows that he'll always be important to you," she tells you, smiling. You smile a small smile back at her, and breathe in. She still smells like rainbows.

"He'll probably just get annoyed, too," you reply, and she rolls her eyes, removing her hands from your shoulders and crossing them.

"Just try it. I guarantee it'll work," she tells you, smirking.

"You willing to bet on it?" You say, smirking back.

"I bet five dollars it will work," she replies.

"You're on," you say, grinning, as she sticks out her hand. You take it, and you shake. You start to walk away before you pause. Your shoes make scuffing sounds on the concrete. "Hey, Theresa…" You say, and she looks at you as you walk back over to her.

"Thanks," you tell her, hugging her for a moment before turning and running off towards Howard's house. She stands there, staring wide-eyed and slack-jawed at your retreating form.
