"Sam? Are you ok? What are you doing here?" Freddie asked, slamming his car door and running over to the blond girl standing on the side of the road.

"I'm fine, I just got a flat on my bike." Sam said, kicking said flat tire gently.

"What are you doing down here?" Freddie asked.

"I told you I was leaving." Sam shrugged, avoiding eye contact.

"You didn't tell me for good. Where are you going?"

"I don't know. Maybe L.A. Maybe I'll keep going and end up in Houston. Or maybe I'll head east." Sam shrugged again.

"So this is all I get?" Freddie asked.

"What do you mean?" Sam asked, carefully laying the bike down on it's side.

"You leave without saying you were gone for good, then I just get a call saying you have a flat and need me to drive all this way to bring you a spare because no one else can?" Freddie asked, getting louder.

"Well no one could. I can't carry a spare on this thing." Sam shrugged again.

"Sam. You're missing the point of this." Freddie said, watching her go grab the spare tire and tools out his car.

"What's the point, Fredork?" She asked. Freddie was fuming.

"Sam!" Freddie yelled. She turned around and finally looked at him.

"What do you want me to say, Freddie? That I'm sorry? That I miss you? That I want to go back to Seattle to live with my awful mother and her jack-ass Boyfriend just to see you?" Sam asked, gesturing around with her arms.

"Sam-"

"I do miss you. And I am sorry for leaving like that. But you're not enough for me to stay there. I have to build my own life. Find where I can become my own person. Far away from anyone who knows me." Sam said softly.

"I miss you too. I just want you to be safe. You're going out on this big adventure that I can't be on with you. I can't protect you." Freddie sighed.

"I don't need you to protect me." Sam knelt back down to change the tire.

"No, you just need me to bring you tools and spare tires." Freddie said, kneeling down beside her.

"I need you to just be there if I need you."

"I can do that. As long as you promise me something." Freddie sat back on the dirt and faced the blond beside him.

"Maybe." Sam sat down as well.

"You'll call. You'll text. You'll stay in regular contact with me. Just so I know you're safe somewhere. And never hesitate to call when you need something." Freddie grabbed one of her hands.

"Yeah. I can do that." Sam squeezed his hand.

"Good. I'm just so glad you're alright. I've been worried sick about you." Freddie pulled her to her feet then into his arms

"Why?" Sam asked.

"Because the girl that I," Freddie stopped himself, but when he looked down at Sam's face staring back at him, he continued, "The girl that I love went MIA and I didn't know if she was alright." Freddie smiled.

"She's just fine." Sam mumbled, burying her head in Freddie's chest.

"Good. But I should probably be going. I have to be back before dark." Freddie stepped back.

"Do you have time to grab lunch?" Sam asked.

"Maybe another time, Sammy." Freddie clutched her hand.

"Alright. I'll call you when I get where I'm going." Sam said, watching him walk back to his car.

"Good." Freddie opened his door and leaned on the top of it, staring at the blond. "I love you." He said softly.

"Back at you, Fredison." Sam said, pointing at him as she backed towards her bike.

"Sam." Freddie rolled his eyes.

Sam ran up to him and kissed him over the door.

"I love you too, Freddie." She said softly.

She turned and ran back to her bike, ready to take off. Freddie waved from behind his windshield.

She flashed him a smile and a thumbs up as she pulled back onto the highway.
