Prying Eyes
I glanced at the clock as a bead of sweat rolled down my forehead. Normally, I didn't catch myself avidly watching the time, but recently she changed that.
"She's not required to visit me," I mumbled, chiding myself. Truthfully, I already felt like her stalker. Every day I pried on her intentions in the crystal ball. "But what if she hurt herself?"
Again, I made excuses for my actions. The door swung forth and a wave of heat washed over me. I gasped as I surveyed her long legs. Damn she looked fantastic in that outfit. Instantly, a stupid grin spread across my face.
"Sorry I'm late," she said, chipper as usual, "I started talking to Chase and lost track of time."
My smile faded – his name again, I thought bitterly.
"I see," I stated, as usual maintaining my nonchalant demeanor. Secretly, I wondered if she could see through my charade.
"I was wondering if you might tell me what Chase thinks about me today." She said, her eyes fluttering at the sound of his name, "I feel like I really made an impression on him."
Gritting my teeth, I forced a nod, and glanced into my crystal ball. The temptation to lie seemed unbelievably delicious. Yet, with her eyes on me, I didn't have the heart.
"It seems…much the same as yesterday. He is starting to have budding feelings for you…and notice you more."
"Shoot! I thought by now he would be in love with me," she mumbled and frowned. With a clap, she smiled. "I guess that just means I need to try harder!"
"Good luck," I mumbled, a tinge of pain in my voice. Why the hell was I encouraging her?
She leaned across the table and placed a hand on my forehead. The breath hitched in the back of my throat – my cheeks rather pink. From this angle, I had a perfect view of her breasts.
"Are you feeling okay, wizard? You seem kind of down today," she said, almost whispering.
"I-I'm fine," I lied.
"If you're worried about something you can talk to me you know," Angela piped, "After are we are friends!"
Friends. The word seemed bittersweet.
"…Right," I stated.
"Oh! I almost forgot. I brought you a present," she said with a twirl. "Coffee beans! I know it's not much but it's a token of my appreciation."
"Thank you…yours are always the highest quality,"
Dropping the bag in my lap, she skipped over to the door. Dazed, she stopped, and turned toward me.
"Bye bye! I'll be back tomorrow."
My heart warmed for a moment; internally, I slapped myself. Dummy! She's only coming to hear her fortune on Chase – not to see you! Yet, I couldn't help but plan my life around her visits. I'd wait forever just to see her smile.
Author's Note: Likely just a one shot. I might write more if I really feel like it.
