Sometimes They Think

By guardyanangel

Sometimes they think…

Sometimes High King Peter thinks that he doesn't deserve the term "Magnificent." Aslan alone deserves to be called that, and Peter feels unworthy to bear it. If any man was worthy, it was his dear brother, Edmund. For Peter was sure that all of Narnia agreed when their High King stated how magnificent King Edmund looked while riding out to joust or battle.

Sometimes they think

Sometimes Queen Susan thinks that she is anything but Gentle. Her mother, back in England, was a gentle woman, and though Susan has tried to be like the lovely lady, the Queen has always felt that her title rightfully belongs to her beloved sister, Lucy. For Susan has never seen a person as gentle as Queen Lucy, especially as she tends to the injured after battle.

Sometimes they think…

Sometimes King Edmund thinks that he should not be the one called Just. His father, before he had left for war, had been a just man, always giving justice where justice was due, and Edmund feels he can never be quite like him. In Edmund's eyes, the person with the most sense of justice is his darling sister, Susan. For Edmund has never seen a more just person than Queen Susan, raining punishment and pardon through her arrows on the field of battle.

Sometimes they think…

Sometimes Queen Lucy thinks that she is timid, not Valiant. The Talking Mice of Narnia had far more valor than she, who was but a child at heart. To Lucy, the most valiant person she has ever seen is her adored brother, Peter. For Lucy has never seen a more valiant person than High King Peter, always first in and last out of battle.

Sometimes they think…

Sometimes the Four Kings and Queens think that they are not staying true to the titles bestowed upon them by Aslan. It is then that they try all the more to prove to Aslan, Narnia, and themselves that they deserve to be called as they are. But Aslan, He who named them, knows that each title suits each king and queen perfectly. For Narnia has never seen a more Magnificent king than Peter, a more Gentle queen than Susan, a more Just king than Edmund, or a more Valiant Queen than Lucy, in times of both peace and battle.

Sometimes they think…

But they'll never really know.
