Christmas Story
The Partridge Replacement (A Christmas Tale)
It was nearly that time of year again, the holiday season, more specifically, Christmas. Fred was on his way to the mall where he would once again participate in the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' holiday play. He couldn't be late for he was the most important character, after all. And which important character might this be? Well the partridge in the pear tree, of course!
So anyway, Fred was driving to the mall (he had a special car made just for a partridge) when he hit a patch of ice in the road and spun out! He tried to swerve but instead ran off the road and into a tree. Thankfully, Fred lived. Only he now had a broken leg and could no longer participate in the Christmas play! Whatever would they do? They had to find a replacement, the show must go on!
Fred decided to audition different people to fill the part. So they set up the pear tree and a sign for auditions with the partridge, a French hen, and a milk maid as judges. First, a small collie stepped up but he couldn't even get up into the tree. Then a robin flew over but she was lost in the branches. Several more tried out but none were right for the part! Fred and the others were beginning to despair; what would they do without a partridge in a pear tree? They were just beginning to take down the sign for auditions when one more person came up.
"Can I give it a try?" Asked the stranger with the yellow eyes.
"Well everyone else has so I don't know why you can't," said Fred. Everyone got back into place as the auditioner jumped up into the tree. "I don't know why, but that's perfect!" Fred exclaimed. Everyone else nodded in agreement. They didn't know why either but for some reason it was so perfect to have a black cat in a pear tree!
So the play went off without a hitch and everyone loved the black cat in the pear tree. The play directors were even thinking of signing him on for next year but don't tell Fred about that!
Author's Note:
Ok, honestly, I just couldn't help myself. I wrote this short story a while back and recently found it again and I love it. It's based on a book I have that's the twelve cats of Christmas and of course there's a black cat in a pear tree. It's awesome, you should read it. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this short little Christmas story.
