The Choice

Look out for number one,

A lesson well learned.

Reinforced countless times,

At every twist and turn.

Hiding behind a poker face,

No longer a difficult task;

But now which face is real,

And which one is the mask.

To take the well worn path

Hiding from the fear,

Of letting emotions go

And risking truth and tears.

To do what is expected,

Or to do what is right.

To remain in the shadows,

Or step into the light.

To continue on the path alone,

Relying on no others;

Or take the hand that's offered,

And join a band of brothers.
