You Should've Smiled More
The Joker pulled the gun out of his jacket. It was purple and had a longer barrel than normal. With a big smile he wrapped his thin, long finger around the trigger.
"You never smiled enough," he said to Nightwing, his big brother. Once he pulled the trigger Nightwing flinched. He knew he didn't have enough time to dodge a bullet. When he opened his eyes a flag was waving in the air, hanging from the gun. It said in bold red letters 'BANG!'. He let out a sigh of relief.
The Joker began chuckling.
"Get it?" he asked. "BANG!" the laughter continued. Nightwing just breathed, happy he was still doing so. Mikey, or now known as the Joker had never gone as far as pointing a gun at him before.
Harley Quinn, his female counterpart started giggling, too. She was behind him watching and waiting for something to happen. Though they planned together, his unpredictable behavior took him out of the plan and flipped things around. Harley never knew what was going on.
"It isn't funny!" Batgirl yelled at him.
"Oh, shut up!" Joker said. "You never were any fun. You're the whole reason he's such a bummer," he said pointing to his brother. "But I'll fix that now."
The plan was get to the bank, take everything, and get out. So Harley thought. She figured one of the bats or bird would get in the way, but nothing bad ever happened. They fought. Roughed each other up. Harley and Joker got locked up and it started over. But he'd never gone to this extreme, even for him, by pointing the gun at Dick.
"You should've smiled more," Joker said and shot the flag at Nightwing. It pierced through his chest right over his heart. He gasped for air and fell over on the ground.
"No!" Harley and Batgirl screamed.
"That wasn't apart of the plan, Mikey!" Harley screamed.
"What did you call me?"
"You promised you wouldn't ever hurt them!" she said now sobbing.
"Go down the stairs," he told her. The stairs off the roof, through the bank and to the car.
"Mikey you promised!"
"Get down now!" he yelled at her and then back handed her face. She fell to the ground not making a sound. He pulled her up by her long black ear and she came to her feet. He pulled her to the stairs and she struggled all the way as her nose bled out.
Batgirl pulled Nightwing's head onto her lap. She shook and patted his face. His eyes flickered but he remained unresponsive. She got out her utility belt, what was a more technologically developed walky-talky.
"What is it?" Batman asked.
"He's gone too far this time," she said. "He shot Dick."
"Where are you?"
"On top of the Gotham Bank building. You have to hurry or he won't make it!"
The Batmobile flew through the cave screeching to a stop. Batgirl came on her cycle right behind the car. The top of the vehicle opened and Batman jumped out and pulled out Nightwing. They laid him on medical table where Alfred was hooking up IV cables already.
They pulled his suit off of his chest as Alfred put an air mask on him and stuck the IV needle into his arm.
"Is he okay? Will he be alright?" Barbara, Batgirl, asked as he pulled off her mask.
"I'm not sure," Alfred said. "It depends on how far the dart went in. If it isn't too far, he should heal alright."
"And if it is too far?"
"You mustn't worry about that, Ms. Gordon."
