METHOS
Eyes that have seen too much sorrow,
And a soul that has born too much pain,
Time comes too close as he watches
Friends leave him behind once again.
He looks toward an endless tomorrow
And his tears are lost in the rain
Unchanging, unaging forever
He returns to the road once again.
He clutches hope tight for a heartbeat,
A moment, a day or a year,
Love brings him peace for an instant
Her smile erases his fears,
Until time reasserts its dominion
He risks everything for a dream
To hold her in safety forever
But the end comes too swift and unseen.
The past returns then to haunt him,
Mocking the changes he's made
Till he turns his back on his brothers
And waits for the memories to fade
Rejoining the game he once left behind
To retreat into shadows and myth,
Defending himself from those blinded by greed
A legend is placed in the lists.1
The shadowed eyes echo wisdom
And knowledge gleaned from the past
"I'm just a guy" he says and he waits
To see if the first shall be last.
