How To Bond With Your Cousin
A one-shot of the conversation that should have happened the moment the kids and Stoick returned to Berk after reuniting with Hiccup, Toothless and Snotlout in The Defiant One.
Stoick turned to his son questioningly "Alright son. Tell me everything."
Both Hiccup and Snotlout turned to one another.
"We kicked the Outcasts butt!" Screams Snotlout victoriously, causing everyone to turn and stare.
"You were on Outcast Island?" Asks Astrid.
"What does he mean you kicked Outcast butt?" Asks Fishlegs
Hiccup nods "After Snotlout got too close to a water spout we crashed there."
All eyes turn to Snotlout
"So I got a bit too close! Big deal. If it weren't for me, Hiccup would still be captured!"
Stoick turns to his son "What happened?"
"Do I really need to answer that question?"
Stoick glares as Hiccup's body droops.
Hiccup takes a deep breath as he begin the tale.
"After we crashed we got into a big fight and split up, then I went to the forge to make a new connecting rod after Snotlout broke it and I got caught by Savage."
Toothless growls at the memory of Snotlout pushing and taunting his Hiccup before breaking the rod.
"Toothless came and got me and we saved Hiccup and kicked Outcast butt. Snotlout! Snotlout! Oi! Oi! Oi!"
"What was the fight about?" Asks Tuffnut happily at any thought of violence.
"Snotlout, of course blamed me for everything." Scoffs Hiccup.
Snotlout stops his cheering
"I was trying to teach you about survival when your dragon ate my biscuit!"
"We had bigger problems then a biscuit!"
"It's not my fault you weren't prepared to battle the Outcasts!"
"The Outcasts never would have known we were there if you hadn't of left my satchel!"
Snotlout angrily approaches the boy
"Well you're the one who took the satchel to Outcast Island!"
"Well I didn't know we were going to Outcast Island!"
"So you weren't prepared again and I get blamed!"
"Oh for the love of! We never would have been on Outcast Island to start with if you had just listened to me!"
The kids all stare as the two cousins continue fighting and blaming one another.
Stoick would never admit to his son that he was proud the boy finally stood up to his cousin, but quickly held Snotlout back the moment he and Hiccup began pushing each other. Vikings may encourage violence, but when it's your own child being pushed your feelings change.
"That's enough!"
Both boys cease their taunts and turn to face each other.
"Wow he's mad!" Declares Ruffnut
Hiccup sighs before holding out his hand
"Thank you for saving me Snotlout."
Snotlout stares at the other kids and chief before rolling his eyes and grabbing his cousins out stretched hand.
"Thank you Hiccup for saving me from that water spout."
The two boys release hands and stare. The kids and chief all smile at the two, they all could see the bond that was slowly forming, the bond both the Haddock and Jorgensen family had begged to see for many years now. The bond of friendship, acceptance and family.
This just came to me after watching The Defiant One. It just felt unresolved and I had to write this one-shot for the two boys and the slow bond that starts forming in my eyes or that I wish would form.
