While Eren Yeager rested on cot in an empty storage room, this slipped into his mind:

"Are you sure you don't have special feelings for Annie?"

This question always seemed to sneak-up on Eren when he least expected and it always made him replay the last battle he fought with Annie.

The entire fight still remained as a vivid memory to him. When he closed his eyes, he could see every move he and Annie made as they fought on that fateful day.

Yet, the smashed buildings, the fire, the smoke, the blood of civilians, and the sight of his fellow comrades scattered about were details that seemed to blur and fade into gray.

In the first moments of the fight, he remembered the feeling an unshakable determination to avenge the lives Annie had took and how his anger turn into a wild rage against her, against all the Titans.

The shock of finding out she was an enemy had long worn off, there was nothing holding him back. His heart swelled with a sense of satisfaction, with every blow he landed. It seemed that nothing Annie did could stop him from ripping her apart.

When he defeated her, it came as no surprise. He knew he would win, even if he was missing a few body parts.

And when he ripped off the back of her neck with his teeth. He came so close to finishing her off.

But, something made him hesitate when he saw her real face emerge from the opening he had created.

With layers of blonde hair framing her pale face, the closed eyes, and the late afternoon sun shining down upon her, she resemble an angle.

He had always thought she looked beautiful, even during their days spent at the academy. But deep down, he knew that her beauty was not the reason why he hesitated.

What really stopped him, was when he realized she was trapped. And that there was nothing he could do to rescue her.

As she turned into crystal cocoon, their Titan forms began to merge together.

It indeed was a shocking sight for all those who saw it happen. But, what he never told anyone, was that he felt all her pain, sorrow, determination to live during the merge.

And that it made one thing clear: A large part of her soul longed to be human. To be free of whatever held her back from becoming human.

Yet, one question remained unanswered:

"Are you sure you don't have special feelings for Annie?"

It has taken Eren a long time, but now he does not hesitate to answer.

"Yes, I do have special feelings for her. I love her, I have always loved her."

Although he does not know when or how. The time or the place.

Someday he will find a way to tell Annie that he loves her.

Just you wait.
