Christmas in Boulder
Kiss in the Snow
Snow is best enjoyed when looking out the window at it and watching the people who are naughty enough to try and drive in it sliding around all over the place. Payson thought as she looks out the window.
"Christmas time is the best time of the year" A voice said behind Payson which made Payson gasp as she was shocked. She didn't hear anyone come in much less standing behind her, she has been so engulfed with the snow outside.
"Didn't mean to scare you" The voice said just as Payson turned around to face the person who disturbed her Snow watching which was no other than Kaylie Cruz.
"No worries" Payson said "It's the uh…So what's going on?' Payson added asking surprised that Kaylie came to her house in this snow.
"It's Christmas eve, Payson" Kaylie said.
"Don't you think I know?" Payson asked rhetorically as she wasn't expecting an answer from Kaylie.
"And I still haven't got a Christmas gift for Carter" Kaylie said ignoring Payson's question.
"And you came here because…?" Payson said still not getting why Kaylie is here.
"The stores are closing and I don't know what to get him" Kaylie said obviously frustrated at not getting a gift for Carter.
"Get him anything" Payson said not getting what the big deal is in finding a Christmas gift for someone.
"Payson, you are not helping, I have to get him the perfect Christmas gift" Kaylie said.
"And you want my help in getting this perfect Gift" Payson said realizing why Kaylie is here.
"Right" Kaylie nodded.
"Okay, let's see" Payson said and then after some seconds of thinking, she added "Why don't you do a perfect floor routine?" Payson said which was more of a question.
"Are you kidding?" Kaylie said putting on the surprised look as she was surprised at what Payson suggested.
"No I'm not" Payson said "Think about it, you can call Cater to the gym" Payson added trying to convince Kaylie.
"It's on lock down" Kaylie said reminding Payson that The Rock is closed and it will be for two weeks.
"I can get a key from my Mum even though it's breaking the rules which I obviously don't like doing but will do because I want to help out and then you can perform a perfect floor routine so Cater can watch and it's going to be the perfect Christmas gift" Payson said smiling as she finished her suggestion of a gift.
"Wow" Kaylie said "That's the best Christmas gift ever" Kaylie added.
"Why do I feel that's sarcasm?" Payson asked.
"Because it is" Kaylie said. "Payson, I love Christmas because it gives me lots of presents and most importantly two weeks off of gymnastics, If it was a person I would hug it" Kaylie added and Payson couldn't help but laugh at this.
"This is not funny" Kaylie said as she sat down on Payson bed, getting really frustrated at not knowing what to get Carter for the Christmas.
"You don't want to do gymnastics on a Christmas Eve" Payson said after she finished laughing.
"Right" Kaylie said.
"Okay then, you go figure something out to give to your boyfriend since you obviously don't like my choice of gift." Payson said.
"Fine" Kaylie said getting off of Payson's bed.
"You were the one I came to me for help, I didn't just offer it" Payson said.
"And I should have known not to come to Payson Keeler for help in matters like these" Kaylie said slightly angry at Payson.
"Then why don't you go meet Lauren, she is the best bet on help in your boyfriend drama?" Payson asked
"Lauren is so busy with the arrival of her grandma" Kaylie said ignoring Payson's use of boyfriend drama.
"Oh" was all Payson said.
"Well I'm going now, don't want to waste anymore time why the stores are closing" Kaylie said and just as she was close to the door, she was called "Kaylie" Payson called and then Kaylie turned around waiting for Payson to talk. "Am sorry I couldn't be of any help" Payson said feeling truly sorry.
"No worries, It's okay" Kaylie said smiling which Payson smiled too "Bye" She added "Bye" Payson responded and with that Kaylie was gone.
As Kaylie was gone, Payson turns back to continue watching the snow.
Even though Payson didn't think of Christmas gifts as a big deal as she got Becca, a fancy leotard and ribbons and her Dad, a book and her Mum, a fancy pen, she wish Kaylie find her perfect gift for Carter although she doesn't approve of the relationship, Kaylie is her best friend as she wants to see her happy which makes her a little sad she couldn't be of any help to her of finding a Christmas gift for Carter as she is not the best advice when it comes to these things.
"This is what Christmas should look like, a Christmas tree in the living room, in front of the window with snow in the background" Payson heard Becca said as she, her Dad and Becca were in the living room while her Mum is in the kitchen. Mark Keeler said something about a white Christmas; she wasn't really paying attention to the conversation. She was thinking about her uneven bars routine which she had to perfect and had to miss two weeks of training which was ironic to Kaylie's words that if Christmas was a person she would hug it gave her two weeks off of gymnastics which was really pissing Payson off.
"Payson honey, is something wrong? You have you have been quiet all through" Mark said jolting Payson from her thoughts and before Payson could respond.
"We all know Payson doesn't like Christmas" Becca said.
"I love Christmas" Payson said glaring at Becca. "I just…We are given two weeks off gymnastics, I don't know why Sasha would do that since Christmas will soon be over tomorrow and we still have people who keep celebrating it even when it is over" Payson said glaring again at Becca.
"Don't forget we still have new year" Mark said.
"Right, um, uh, I'm going to the kitchen to help Mum out" Payson said getting up, not wanting to argue because if she stay, she will definitely end up arguing "Okay" Mark said giving Payson permission to leave and off she went but not to the kitchen, but to her room.
Payson who was putting on a purple blouse over a black trouser wore her big black jacket over it and she let her blond hair loose.
Payson loves a day with newly fallen snow; she likes the beauty of the trees covered with a coating of ice that sparkles in the sun. She likes the smell of fresh evergreens and the glow of fallen ice in the night and so she decided to go out in the snow and she went through the back door of the house and when she stepped out she was greeted by the most beautiful powder covered snow scene she has ever seen.
"Wow" She says smiling and then she starts walking in the snow to nowhere in particular.
"This is what I love about the holidays, it's special when you get to share it with your family" Kim Keeler said just as she placed the tray of food on the table.
"That's what I always say, Christmas time is the best time of the year" Becca said.
"Where is Payson?" Kim asked just as she finished arranging the food on the table.
"In the kitchen" Mark and Becca said at the same time.
"Wasn't she in the kitchen with you?" Mark then asked.
"No" Kim said surprised at what is going on. "Maybe she is in her room" Kim added and with that she walked to Payson room and she came out a few seconds later.
"Seriously, where is Payson?" She asked and Mark and Becca have these puzzled looks on their faces. No one had an idea where Payson is.
After a few minutes walk from her house, Payson saw someone she wasn't expecting to see out here in the snow.
"Sasha" She called out.
"Payson, what are you doing out here?" Sasha asked just as he walked up to her.
"Just walking in the snow" Payson replied.
"On Christmas Eve and it's going to be Christmas soon" Sasha said looking at Payson suspiciously "Christmas is an amazing day to spend time with your family and obviously you don't want that since you are out here at night in the snow" He added.
"I just like the glow of snow in the night" Payson said "Right" Sasha said and Payson chuckled and Sasha slightly laughed "Okay you got me, I was spending some time away from my family" Payson said "But you don't really believe that you know" Payson added after some seconds of silence "What?" Sasha asked. "When you said Christmas is a time to be happy with your family since you are doing the complete opposite" Payson replied and Sasha slightly laughed "Come on, I will walk you home" He said and then he and Payson starts walking towards The Keeler's Home.
"I don't care much about holidays in general" Sasha said as he and Payson walked side by side. "Don't even celebrate my own birthday, If I honestly out of my own choice want to give someone a gift, then I can do that any day and If I want to be nice to someone, I can as well do that any day" He said and a few seconds of silence, Sasha added "When I was a little boy, Christmas was boring to be frank, neither myself nor my family has any interest in the religious aspect so all it boils down to is the true formula of driving four and a half hours to my grandparents so I can be assaulted by drunk uncles, that's figuratively of course" He said which made Payson laugh slightly and then he continued "And be forced to grin and bear it as I open terrible gifts that often relate in no way to me or my interests, the only redeeming part is that my Mum gets a holiday and gets to see her family" Sasha finished and they continued walking in Silence.
"I love Christmas" Payson started "Well everything except celebrating it and buying presents" Payson quickly added which made Sasha chuckled. "I love the feeling it gives people, it's a jolly feeling and most people are happy and it gives me a reason to listen to Frank Sinatra's version of Jingle Bells" She added.
"I love his version too" Sasha said "Really, you love it?" Payson asked smiling "Yeah" Sasha said and there was a few seconds of silence which Payson interrupted.
"But despite all of that, I really don't like celebrating it with my family, we have to eat the same old Christmas food, watch Home alone or Donald Duck whichever Becca wants" Payson said which made Sasha chuckled "Open the presents with the family, my family is too traditional when it comes to Christmas, so I really don't enjoy celebrating it" Payson added.
"Traditional, I noticed that from the day I got here" Sasha said.
"Really?" Payson asked.
"Yeah" Sasha said "You do have family weekends and your Mum definitely didn't like me distorting that" Sasha said and Payson laughed "And this is your home" Sasha added and Payson who was looking down looked up and noticed they are standing in front of her house. Payson was so engulfed with the conversation that she didn't notice that they stood at the front of her house.
"It's been a great conversation with you, Payson" "Likewise, Sasha"
"Sasha" Payson called just as Sasha turned ready to walk away and at the mention of his name, Sasha turned around facing Payson once again.
"Would you like to come in?" Payson asked "I mean come have a Christmas dinner with us" Payson quickly added "And open gifts, well I didn't get you a gift but if I did, I would have got you a mug that says; World's Best Gymnastics Coach" Payson said.
"And that would be the best Christmas gift ever because I would have love that" Sasha said and Payson smiled at this and Sasha couldn't help but notice Payson's beautiful smile and the thought that Payson looked beautiful in the moonlight and this snow covered scene and just then Sasha felt Payson's beautiful cold lips on his paled lips and he immediately pulled back "Payson" He called surprised by the kiss and Payson who was beyond embarrassed turned back and she attempted to run inside but she felt a hand grab her wrists and then pulled back and before Payson could say anything, Sasha's paled lips touched her cold lips and butterflies fluttered in Payson's stomach. She couldn't think of anything else, not even gymnastics, all she could think of is that Sasha is kissing her in the snow.
