I ran
The voices in my head echoing, the blood in my veins pounding, my heart fluttering
I ran to escape
I couldn't scrub his blood from my fingernails.Monsters danced in front of my eyes, laughing back at me in the mirror
When I close my eyes,he has wings
Food was like vomit, coating the inside of my mouth, my throat, the stench in my nose. But I ate, because they were all watching me
My fingertips were fire, I was afarid to touch anything, afarid of the burn I would leave.
So I ran
The vines and flowers outside my window crumbled and died, their brillance fading to a dull brown
At n ight, he stood outside my window, pale, glowing, naked with wings
But I ran
His eyes were broken, his skin like a mermaid's, gasping for his home, his old skin, light, sun, the water
"Hey" he smiled,"How's everything down there"
I could see how shiny his tears had left his eyes, the corners sparkling like diamonds
"Okay", I replied, my heart crumbling to dust in my chest.I couldn't feel the fluttering, the million little drumbeats
He looked up at my face, searching for my thoughts, searching my eyes."Deb?"
I saw the wings again, the ivory white feathers appearing from behind him, peeking, taunting me from behind his hospital gown
And I ran
I ran from the pain
I ran from him, pieces of broken mirror in front of me.I used to be able to see myself in him
I ran
It was all thorns, fire, monsters, and dragons baring their teeth, screaming for blood.Knives, shiny knives. His cold eyes, her dead eyes
I ran
Voices echoed in my ears, ringing in my head
I ran
I could see he wanted me.He wanted me to sit by his side. To hold his hand and glue him back together. To get his slivers under my nails. TO have him under my skin, his drums in my chest
But I ran
His ghost was there. His smell. His eyes. His blood dried and pooled under my nails, caked in my nail bed
He haunted that room
And I couldn't rest until he was th ere again. Putting me back together. His breath like sea mist on my neck and face
Only then would I stop running
The voices in my head echoing, the blood in my veins pounding, my heart fluttering
I ran to escape
I couldn't scrub his blood from my fingernails.Monsters danced in front of my eyes, laughing back at me in the mirror
