Chapter 1

Shadow aimed another right hook at the red punching bag in front of her, hitting it with all she had making the bag swing slightly backwards. She glared in annoyance at it, giving out a volley of punches, hearing the chain holding up the bag rattle, with a smile she went at it again, dishing out all her anger and stress of the past year, her final school year. No more stupid speeches for English assignments, no more stress until she started up at university. No more random stuff she didn't want to do but had to do anyway to get good grades. And on top of it all, no more idiots that consistently succeeded in pissing her off, all of which had somehow managed to graduate. With a final swing, she heard the satisfying sound of breaking chain links as the bag flung off, crashing to the ground, the chain following it. She wandered to the broken links, picking them up and throwing them in the corner with the rest of them, she grabbed a new chain and attached it to the breakaway clip on the bag, hanging it back up and going at it again.

She neglected to notice three men entering her space in the basement of her house. Her family was away for a few days and she'd wanted to have a little 'celebration of her own'. The three entered quietly and walked towards the girl as she went at the bag again, lest did they know she knew exactly where they were. As they came closer, she spun and started her attack, promptly being grabbed and stopped.

"Easy Rocky," came the familiar, highly annoying voice of Tony Stark in front of her. She saw the God of Thunder standing before her and looked behind her seeing Steve, aka Captain America.

"You can release me now," Shadow growled.

"Sorry," the super soldier said, letting go and moving in front of her with the others.

"Now," Shadow said, "what the hell are you doing in my house?"

"Maiden of the Shadows we have come to invite you to join the mighty Avengers" Thor declared proudly.

"I have a good life here, family friends, and a scholarship for Uni, why would I want to give all that up?" Shadow questioned as she started to unwrap her hands from the tape she used to protect her knuckles from the force of her punches.

"To have the chance to fight alongside us and to become a hero yourself," Steve explained.

"No, I presume you can let yourselves out," Shadow turned from the three Avengers and walked towards the steps leading into the house.

"Now see here…" Tony started and put a restraining hand on Shadow's shoulder before she promptly flipped him onto his back and stoop on his chest holding his arm in place for leverage, prepared to break it if he tried to struggle. Thor and Steve stepped forward to help their friend.

"Stop where you are or I'll break his arm," she directed the two unpinned Avengers, to Tony she said, "now you see here, I am willing to make a deal with you."

"What is your preposition?" Tony asked.

"Let me start and finish UNI, you only have to wait three years, then I will go to you in your stupid tower and join the Avengers, deal?" Shadow negotiated.

"Yes, fine, deal, three years then we're coming to get you whether you like it or not," Tony snapped from beneath her steel toed boot.

"Fine by me, let yourselves out, if I find you still here when I'm finished packing up here there will be hell to pay," was the final threat from Shadow before she completely ignored their retreating forms.

Two Avengers left her house perfectly fine that day, but one left with a severely damaged ego and a possibly sprained arm.
