Vidia, Interrupted Chapter 1
This story takes place within the Tinker Bell / Disney Fairies movie-verse and is a direct sequel to my story Vidia's Revenge. The events depicted occur before, during and after the movie Tinker Bell and The Lost Treasure.

"Vi-i," Tinker Bell croaked. She tried to gasp for air, but could not. "Vi-i." It was more pathetic than before. When Tinker Bell called out to her assailant one last time she could not even draw in enough breath to speak. A bamboo shepherd's crook was hooked around her neck holding her head and neck in place. Another was being pushed into her throat and cutting off her air. The little tinker fairy tried vainly to push away the shepherd's crooks that were choking her life away.
Vidia was holding the other ends. "What did I tell you? What did I tell you?!" she yelled with a terrific fury. "I said don't get in my way, didn't I?!"
Tinker Bell didn't respond, she was too busy turning shades of red from anger..., and then blue from lack of air.
"You won't get my sympathy with the colors of my guild, Tinker Bell." Then it quickly dawned on her why the tinker fairy's cheeks were turning bluish purple. She released her victim and let Tinker Bell breathe again.
Tinker Bell fell to the ground. She coughed and gasped for air greedily as she tried to recover from Vidia's assault. The color slowly began to return to her cheeks. Vidia tossed aside the two bamboo shepherd's crooks that Tinker Bell had remade to capture the sprinting thistles. They landed and bounced on the ground with a hollow, but satisfying reverberation.
"Now stay out of my way," Vidia spat to her unwanted partner. "I didn't invite you here and I certainly don't need you claiming my thistles."
Tinker Bell tried to reply, but could not. She was too busy rubbing her throat, coughing and gasping for oxygen. Her body twisted and rolled on the ground when she tried to sit up.
"What's that?" Vidia sarcastically asked Tinker Bell. "Nothing? Good, that is what I want from you. Nothing!" She pointed to the other side of the grassy field. "Now go over there and stay as far away from me as you can. The less I see of you the better."
"Same...here," Tinker Bell croaked out.
Vidia was completely frustrated because of the lost time and effort. She had lassoed a thistle and then spent the better part of two hours trying to wear it out. She had finally gotten control over it when Tinker Bell, who had hooked her own thistle, collided with her. Vidia lost her grip on the lasso and the weed sprinted off, obscured by the tall grasses in the field where they were working. Those same tall grasses hid her movements from the other fairy, but it didn't matter to Vidia. As far as she was concerned, this was Tinker Bell's fault. Tink didn't stay on her side as she had been told when they divided up the field earlier that day.

"Okay, you see this pathway," Vidia told Tinker Bell gruffly. "I'll work on the right side and you work on the left. DON'T CROSS OVER! Understand?"
"I won't," Tinker Bell replied nicely. "But shouldn't we work together? I could build a corral and then both of us could..."
"NO!"
"But we could be like the cowboys," Tinker Bell replied enthusiastically. "Y'know, like those stories from the distant mainland on the far side of the great waters. Together we can herd them into the corral and finish in just a couple of days."
"Now you listen and you listen good. Stay on your side and as far away from me as possible," Vidia bellowed. "And so help me, Tinker Bell, if you get in my way I'll...,"
"You'll what?!" Tinker Bell shot back.
"I'll knock you into next season. Got it?!" Tinker Bell grabbed her two shepherd's crooks and flew off to her side of the field.
"Stupid tinker fairy," Vidia grumbled under her breath. "I can't believe I'm stuck with little Ms. Sunny Sunshine."
~O~
Vidia set out to hunt down the Sprinting Thistle she had lost and hoped it was still too fatigued to run off. She hated chasing and being dragged around by these infernal weeds. This kind of work was so beneath her. "But it's perfect for those lousy little tinker fairies." There wasn't any kind of smelly, dirty, back breaking labor that was beneath those fairies, Vidia told herself. If I ran Pixie Hollow they'ld be doing all the dirty work. And Tinker Bell would be made to do the worst of it.
Then a different idea crossed her mind. No, she would be my personal servant. 'Oh, Tinker Bell. Bring me a glass of Rose Hips Wine, chilled. My feet are cold, bring me my shoes. I'm hungry, fetch my dinner.' That would be fun. Well, fun for me anyway.
Tinker Bell sat on the ground, her back propped up by a blade of tall grass. It took her some time to recuperate from her run in with Vidia. Her throat was sore from where it had been squished by her own invention. She was very lucky that her windpipe hadn't been crushed; a blessing the tinker fairy didn't ignore.
Earlier Tinker Bell had hooked a Sprinting Thistle and was taking it back to Needlepoint Meadow. She must not have noticed crossing the pathway between her side and Vidia's. Tinker Bell was too involved trying to keep control over the thistle when she crashed into Vidia who was still using her old lasso technique.
When the sun had crawled a little higher into the sky Tinker Bell finally made an attempt to stand on her feet. She succeeded, but was still woozy from both the collision and being without oxygen for almost a full minute and a half. Rather than pick up where she left off, Tinker Bell gathered her shepherd's crooks and carefully flittered back to the Pixie Dust Tree and the hospital.

Vidia watched Tinker Bell flutter away from the grassy field. "What's wrong, the work too much for you?" she muttered to the retreating fairy. "So much for the 'superior talent.' The only thing she is superior at is running away."
THUNK!
"Ow!" Cinda exclaimed. She had been reading through the many records of formal complaints and convictions against Vidia. The dry legalese had taken its toll and she dozed off. Her head slumped forward and it dropped to the table. Cinda rubbed her head, hoping a knot wasn't going to appear.
"Are you injured," the queen asked Cinda.
"No, I'm fine, your highness. Only my ego is bruised."
"And your forehead by the looks of it," Rhia joked.
Cinda's face twisted into horror. "Is it really that bad?"
"No, dear," the queen said. "Rhia is just teasing you."
Cinda shot Rhia a hateful look, but quietly was most grateful for the distraction. It woke her up and helped her to think about something other than the throbbing pain in her forehead. Now if only something could squelch the throbbing pain of these legal documents. Cinda give out a deep sigh and then continued reading the densely worded forms.
"You're fine, Tinker Bell," the healing talent fairy told her. "No permanent damage was done. Although your throat will be bruised and feel sore for a while."
The healing talent reached for a small acorn container and from it transferred some ointment to a hollow bamboo shoot. Handing it to Tinker Bell the healer said, "This is Arnica, it will help with the bruising and the pain. Just apply it lightly twice a day and you'll be fine."
Tinker Bell took the bamboo shoot with the herbal pain reliever, thanked the healing talent and flittered out of the hospital, picking up her shepherd's crooks on the way out.
~O~
At the grassy field, Tinker Bell rubbed a small amount of the Arnica on her throat. She looked out across the tall grasses, but could only hear Vidia struggling with another thistle. or maybe it was the same one. The flyer was screaming out and yelling all manner of foul words at the weed. Tinker Bell wanted to help her capture the thistle, but Vidia made it abundantly clear she didn't want any help from Tinker Bell. So Tink kept her distance for today. She stayed on her side of the pathway and after several grueling hours, finally managed to lead a thistle back to Needlepoint Meadow.
"No wonder she hates me so much," Tinker Bell muttered to herself. "This is awful work."
She sat down under a large leaf seeking respite from the afternoon sun. Tinker Bell rubbed her throat again, still feeling the soreness and applied a little more of the Arnica. She wondered if her throat had turned black and blue. The healing talent did tell her it was going to be bruised. A shadow darted across the ground from someone flying overhead. She flinched thinking it would be Vidia coming to gloat or yell at her, but a chipper voice greeted her.
"Hi, Tink," Terence said. He landed and knelt down next to her. "Wow, you look worn out."
Tinker Bell quirked an irate eyebrow, Maybe Vidia would have been better, she thought.
"Here, I brought you something," he said, handing her a water skin made from wrapped leaves. Her face brightened instantly. She was so thirsty. Tinker Bell had been swallowing what little saliva her mouth was making to whet her dry throat. It hurt a little every time she did. But now she had real, cold water. She took the water skin and took a giant gulp of the clear liquid. It tasted so good in her parched mouth, but she when she swallowed a sharp pain went through her throat and Tinker Bell nearly spit up the water.
"Whoa! Slow down. Are you okay? Hey, what happened to your neck?"
Tinker Bell carefully swallowed the water in her mouth in tiny amounts. Her throat hurting every time she did. Is this what I did to Roquefort? Is this the kind of pain he fells every time he eats something? Tinker Bell cringed a little thinking about the poor little mouse she lead into Vidia's home as retribution. He tried to swallow something too big and it tore up the inside of his throat. Now she had some idea of the pain he was experiencing. I guess the human's were right, what goes around does come around.
"Tink, are you alright?" Terence asked. She looked up at his eyes, they were so filled with worry and concern when just a moment earlier they were alight with energy and cheer.
"Yes, I'm fine." Tinker Bell then told him what happened with Vidia and the shepherd's crooks.
"Does it really look that bad?" she asked him.
Terence paused and gulped. "Nah, you can hardly tell. Y'know, I thought maybe it was some dirt."
She give him a dirty look for lying.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry."
Tinker Bell drank more water, carefully sipping it this time rather than gulping, even if she wanted desperately to chug it down as fast as she could. Terence sat down next to her, taking her hand in his. "Don't worry," he told her. "You'll get through this just fine. You're too strong to let anything get you down."
One side of her lips curled up in slight smile. She needed that, a reassuring word from her best friend. When she finished her water Terence stood up and helped Tinker Bell to her feet. "Hey, how about you and I go get some dinner together. My treat."
She giggled. Fairies didn't use money, although they sometimes bartered for the things they needed. The food, though was always free. But she admired his gallantry and his way of looking out for her. He had been doing so almost from the moment she arrived. Terence helped her to accept how important her talent was when Tinker Bell wanted to leave Pixie Hollow after ruining all the preparations for spring. She appreciated it then and was still grateful for his timely interventions.
The two lit off for the Pixie Dust Tree and the dining hall. When they arrived, Terence found a nice table, pulled out the chair for Tinker Bell and then brought a tray with all of Tink's favorite foods. This was his way of treating her, by waiting on her hand and foot so she could rest and enjoy her evening meal. She would have enjoyed it even if she had to get it herself because Terence, her best friend in all of Pixie Hollow, was with her.
I hope you enjoyed the beginning of this second part of my story. Please leave a review so I'll know if you like it or not. I won't improve if no one tells me anything. Thank you.
Note: Arnica really does exist and it is used for bruising and pain.
