A/N: HELLO MY LITTLE LOVELIES! There was a big thunderstorm today. Lots of wondrous petrichor. That is all.
Verklempt- overcome with emotion
Dan and Phil walked through the park, celebrating their four-year anniversary by just spending time together. They'd agreed not to get each other presents this year, and just to spend the entire day together. But, what Phil didn't know, was that Dan had broken one of the only rules that they'd set for the day: No presents. In his pocket was a small box with a big future inside- a diamond ring.
They approached a large tree with a bench beside it and decided to sit down, taking a break from their walk to simply relax. Dan fidgeted nervously, causing Phil to eye him strangely.
"Is something wrong, Dan?" he asked, adjusting himself in his seat to better face him. Dan sighed.
"Y-yeah, I'm just a bit preoccupied. Ya know?" he said, hoping Phil would leave it at that.
"Well, try to get it off of your mind. And you can tell me anything, you know. We've been dating for four years now, you can trust me!" he said with a smile. Dan nodded, smiling back and kissing him on the cheek.
"Well.. If I can tell you anything, then there's one thing that I'm a bit worried you might get mad at me about," he confessed. Phil raised an eyebrow.
"..What is it?" he asked, taking Dan's hand. Dan looked at him, trying his best to look guilty.
"I broke a rule. I got you a present," he mumbled. Phil sighed.
"Daaan," Phil whined. Dan smiled.
"Sorry, but hey, it's really important! I've been wanting to give it to you for a while, I've actually had it for like.. a month. Please? Let me give it to you?" he begged, holding Phil's hand in both of his own. Phil rolled his eyes.
"Fine," he sighed. Dan smiled.
"Alright, close your eyes!" he said. Phil obliged, closing his eyes. Dan stood and got in front of him on the ground, bending down on one knee and pulling out the small box. "Open," he commanded. Phil opened his eyes, which immediately widened to the size of dinner plates when he realized what was going on. As Dan snapped the box open, Phil covered his open mouth with his hands. "Phil, will you marry me?" Dan asked. Phil just stared at him, at a loss for words. His eyes began tearing up, and Dan quickly stood to sit next to him again. "Ph-Phil? Are you alright? Dammit, I made you cry, I'm so sorry!" he scolded himself, his hand on Phil's shoulder. He snapped the box shut as Phil shook his head, sniffling and wiping at his eyes.
"N-no, Dan, it's fine! I just got a bit overwhelmed.." he said, smiling slightly. Dan sighed.
"I-I overwhelmed you. I'm sorry, It was stupid, I'll just-"
"No, wait!" Phil cut across. It was Dan's turn to look surprised. Phil smiled, kissing Dan's cheek. "Dan, I was just surprised and happy! Here, ask me again," he commanded, sitting up straight and sniffing. Dan looked at him strangely, getting back down on his knee and reopening the box.
"Phil, will you marry me?" he asked again, a smile on his face. Phil smiled right back, beaming with happiness.
"Yes, I will," he said proudly. Dan laughed and stood up quickly, practically tackling Phil in a hug. They both laughed for a bit before Phil grabbed Dan's head and kissed him passionately, allowing Dan to slide the ring on his finger once and for all. Dan smiled and pressed their foreheads together, not caring that they were in a public place and that anybody could have seen all of that. All that mattered was that Phil had said yes.
"Hey, Dan?" asked Phil, a smile still on his face. Dan grinned back, packing him on the lips.
"What is it, Phil?" he asked. Phil rubbed their noses together, giving him an eskimo kiss.
"Happy anniversary, you beautiful idiot."
