Lincoln's POV
"Lincoln," I heard a voice call out.
I groaned and turned to my side.
"Lincoln. It's time for school," the voice said.
I felt a hand touch my shoulder to wake me. The person got her wish as I opened my eyes slowly. It must've been a dream. I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a smoke-filled sky and flashes of light in places. I saw my hands, and they were covered in blood. I was wearing a light green uniform with yellow packs strapped to my shoulders. I raised my head up to see burning buildings. I could hear the flame crackle in my ear, as well as gunshots from the distance. The dust in the air was rich, so much that I nearly choked. I also saw people beating each other to death.
"Lincoln!" I heard someone call.
I looked to see who it was, and I saw Lori running toward me.
She grabbed my hand and helped me up, "Are you hurt?!"
"No," I simply answered.
I then remembered. I remembered how we got here. I remembered that we've been here for ten years and that Lori, Luna, and Luan were volunteering as nurses, considering that women weren't allowed to fight. Lynn, however, didn't take "no" for an answer and was placed in my platoon. The American army is looking after Lola, Lana, Lisa, and Lilly. We haven't seen Lilly since we got here. We don't even know what she looks like yet. Leni was their chef, considering she didn't "qualify in anything worth anything". I joined as soon as I turned eighteen and have been fighting ever since. Actually, I've been fighting since we got here ten years ago.
"Are our sisters okay?" I asked.
"Yes! They're fine!" she replied. "They had to evacuate them!"
I heard shouting and turned to see a man in a gray uniform and helmet with a spike in the center charging at us with a rifle that had a knife tied to it. I remembered that we called them "Bayonets". Lori unexpectedly grabbed the rifle and pointed it away from me. The soldier stabbed her with it instead. I grabbed my Beretta Model 1915 that was given to me by a friend who fought with me, pointed it to the temple of his head, and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately, I was too late. Lori lay lifeless in a pool of her own blood. My blood boiled with rage. I grabbed my rifle from the ground and left to rejoin my platoon.
