6th year, Remus is once again the DADA teacher.
****
It started out like any other day. Remus got up, took a shower, and went down to the great hall
for breakfast. What he didn't know was that today was different. His being a werewolf normally
only interfered with his daily life on nights of the full moon. But it was October, and he was in better
health than was usual for him (Dumbledore & Molly Weasley took care of that over the summer).
Werewolves, you see, are a bit more like wild animals than most people think. Like all wild animals,
they must reproduce to maintain the species. For Remus, that meant he was in heat.
Oddly enough, Remus felt the same as he normally did. However, the staff sitting around him at
breakfast noticed a very pronounced change. His smell.
"Oi Dear God Remus! Did you bathe in cat diarrhea?" Sprout was never one to mince words, or tact.
"No." Remus looked puzzled. "I don't smell anything."
"Well, I do. Excuse me." Sprout left the table.
'Hmmm,' Remus thought. 'I wonder what that was about.'
***
After breakfast, Remus went to his classroom to prepare for the day's lessons. The first class of the day
1st year Ravenclaws & Hufflepuffs.
As the students started filing in, Remus called for homework.
"Please place your essays on boggarts on my desk & get your wands out. Today we have a practical lesson."
And so the timid 1st year students put their homework on his desk, eyes watering from his powerful musk. Remus smiled kindly at them,
and occasionally pat them on the shoulder to offer congratulations. He still didn't notice anything was amiss.
****
The last class of the day was 6th year Gryffindors & Slytherins. Remus waved & smiled @ Harry, Ron, & Hermione. They smiled back, although
their expressions were strained. Ron cast a sideways glance @ Harry.
"Do you think he knows?" Ron hissed his question through teeth still clenched in a polite smile.
"Apparently not. Maybe no one wanted to hurt his feelings." Harry could barely see his way to his desk with his eyes watering.
