Summary: There comes a time when people move on. Life comes to an end but AI remains. What happens then? Drabble-ish. Hints at ZADF, ZAGR, and onesided ZAGiR. It's there if you squint!

A/N: I honestly don't know why I wrote this but I think it's effective. I almost cried while reading this over because I realized I wrote about my own forbidden friendship. May she rest in peace. C.P. 1995-2002

Disclaimer: I do not own Invader Zim. If I did, I would bake a cake that read "GIR and Zim forever alive", sell it and license the images as my own! Wow my mind is crazy at 10:37pm (when I actually wrote this thing on my iPod).

He left on a cloudy day. Dib, Gaz, and GIR surrounded the small grave at their feet. Dib and Gaz remained silent as GIR cried softly beside them. And to think, a simple PAK malfunction caused it all. The gravestone bore the name Zim. He was gone, forever lost to eternity.

Years later, GIR found himself at the cemetery once again with Gaz. This time, Gaz was the one crying. He left on a cool fall day. The graves were next to each other. Zim and Dib, two friends together in eternity.

GIR found himself there twice more. Both without the purple-haired girl. Gaz and Zim, two lovers together in eternity. GIR went that day with Minimoose. The second time, GIR was truly alone. Who knew a simple motherboard malfunction could do such a thing? And without the creator around, who could fix it? Even the Computer had deleted the old schematics. They should have kept it. Minimoose and Zim, Master and servant together in eternity. One being left, truly and utterly alone on Earth.

GIR found the life around him ever changing and ever growing. There were new friends to be made but none of them stayed very long. GIR finally stopped going out and confided himself to the base. The Computer AI gave out after a while too. GIR was truly alone.

GIR remembered hearing about a place in the sky where all the departed are together. How he longed to find his friends. Years were spent in search of this amazing place in the sky. After his own rockets finally gave out, he used the Voot Cruiser.

When life finally started dying out on the planet, GIR visited the graves one last time. Four graves lay side by side: Dib, Zim, Gaz, and Minimoose. GIR took off in the Voot one last time, this time leaving forever.

He didn't search hard enough before so he would now. He flew on and on into the endless night. He would find Master and his friends again no matter what. He doesn't know it's impossible.

GIR still flies to this day, searching for the inevitable. He doesn't realize that he can never be taken by eternity. GIR and Zim, forever separated, a friendship forbidden by eternity.
