Author's Note: Okay. So this fic is partially my attempts to combine the 007 and Doctor Who universes. For James, this takes place between Quantam of Solace and Skyfall.

The Doctor,' M said matter-of-factly as she slid the file across the desk to where Bond was sat. Bond sifted carefully through a series of mugshots and grainy photographs as he listened intently 'Various intelligence agencies around the world have their own emergency response procedures relating to the Doctor. UNIT has an entire handbook on him.'

At that moment, M shot Bond a conspiratorial look and leaned forward secretively 'You've heard of Torchwood?' she asked cautiously.

Bond stiffened., looking warily at her 'I'm not cleared for access to the Torchwood files,' he muttered evasively.

'That's not what I'm asking,' M countered dryly.

'Yes,' Bond admitted, reluctantly, as he wracked his brain for the memory 'The story goes that in 1879 HRH Queen Victoria established the Torchwood Institute to combat the strange the usual and the alien.'

'Very good,' M looked at him in veiled amusement at his accuracy 'But there's one thing they don't tell you: the Torchwood Institute was established to combat the extraterrestrial threat posed by the Doctor.'

'The Doctor's an alien?' mused Bond, frowning.

'Exactly,' M took another file out of her folder and handed it to Bond, who looked it carefully over. 'The Sycorax Incident, Christmas Day, 2006. Do you recall Harriet Jones' address to the nation?'

Bond shook his head 'No, ma'am. If you recall, I was on recon in the Philippines at the time. I've seen copies of the original on file, though. It contained reference to a "Doctor", is that right? A plea for help.'

'Indeed,' said M 'Public releases of the speech have been edited to remove all reference to the Doctor, and records have been altered to remove any evidence to the contrary, as is the protocol in these Code 9 cases...'

'Code 9?' he ventured, frowning.

'The Doctor has since proved to be a valuable asset in extraterrestrial incidents,' M explained, looking through her own files 'The ATMOS scares of '09, the Harold Saxon scandal, the Dalek Invasion, I could go on...'

'I remember the Dalek Invasion,' Bond sighed ruefully 'I was in Syria at the time. You sent me to infiltrate the Dalek Lines in the East. A lot of good operatives died that day.'

'Are you quite finished?' M snapped sharply.

Bond cleared his throat 'Yes, I was just...' he winced 'No, never mind.' he muttered, waving a dismissive hand.

M resumed the conversation as if nothing had happened 'Intelligence is currently compiling a classified dossier of all known Code 9 instances,' she went on, 'For your reference.'

'Why are you telling me this?' Bond shuffled uneasily.

'MI6 believes the Doctor may pose a threat to continued national security. Recent intelligence suggests that UNIT has received direct communication from the Doctor himself...'

'What does it say?' was all Bond could manage.

M's voice hardened, her face intense 'I know what you did, MI6...'

'Oh God,' Bond exhaled quietly.

'Exactly.' M said darkly 'We need you to assassinate the Doctor.'

A/N: So that's the central premise for the story. Basically, MI6 have done something very nasty. Something the Doctor doesn't approve of. And it's 007's job to keep him quiet about it. More to come soon!
