James sat under his Transfiguration professor's stony gaze as he scribbled on his parchment. Due to his ogling of Evans at breakfast that morning, his pumpkin juice had spilled all over his essay and rendered it useless, earning him detention with the lovely professor. However, being one of Minnie's favourites had its perks, though she'd never admit it. He only had to rewrite the essay before he could leave.

He was on the last line when there was a slight burning against his thigh. He yelped in surprise, earning a curious look from the woman at her desk before she went back to her own work.

James waited a moment before pulling something out of his pocket. It looked like a simple mirror however, instead of James' reflection, he saw the grinning face of his best friend, Sirius. It seemed like the boy was running as his hair flew behind his shoulders and the castle walls rushed by in the background.

"Prongs," Sirius said. "I need you for something."

"I'm with McGonagall now," James said under his breath.

"I know. I'm right outside," Sirius said.

James was about to say more when Sirius' face disappeared from view. A few moments later, hurried footsteps were heard approaching the classroom door before it was thrown open. A frantic, wide-eyed young man stood there, his chest heaving and his face pale.

"Professor McGonagall, come quick. Filch is hanging out of the Owlery window!" he said.

The professor jumped to her feet before running out into the corridor. Sirius grinned before he walked into the room and dropped into the seat beside James. "Now, you can help me."

"You know you didn't have to make up such a ridiculous lie to get me out of detention," James said as he began to pack up his things.

Sirius said, "Who said I was lying?"

James rose from the desk and placed his finished essay on McGonagall's desk. "You didn't?" he asked.

Sirius took his thumb and index finger and drew it across his lips, before throwing his arm over his best friend's shoulders. "Now, here's the deal," he began as they walked out of the Transfiguration classroom.
