It's been almost a year since I've been back in District 12 and this is the first time I've seen Katniss laugh. It hadn't been a good day for her. Something must have reminded her too much of everything that has happened and she slipped out of the house before I could say anything. I watched her walk away with a sadness that only comes around on these days.

Cheer her up, the thought wrapped around inside my head and I got to thinking about what I could do. I went out and pick a bouquet of flowers; daisies, primroses and dandelions. I grabbed the vase of dead flower stems and threw it out the window, replacing it with the freshly picked colours and it immediately put a different mood to the kitchen.

She didn't come home until the sun had gone down and by then I was only done with the first round of cheese buns. She walks into the kitchen with a hollow look in her eyes and sits down on a chair; bringing her knees to her chest. She picks at the leaves of the new flowers. I set down a plate in front of her and gently kiss her cheek because Katniss is Katniss and right now I don't know how much she'll allow me to be with her.

"Thanks." She barely whispers as I head back to my station of mixing cups and bowls of every size. I'm turning around, grasping the handle of a mixing cup filled to the brim with flour when I feel myself step on something long and bony and the screech comes just a second after. I jump a step away and release the cup out of total surprise, bringing my hands to my ears as Buttercup continues to shriek. I watch the cup of flour fall in slow motion and it makes a hard impact with the ground centimetres away from Buttercup.

There is a cloud of white dust that billows up and around us. I suck in a lungful of powder accidently and I get down on my knees coughing and spitting it out of my mouth. It takes a second for me to notice a sweet sound in the background of my hacking. I turn around and see Katniss clutching her stomach, her face scrunched up and the curve of her lips pulled in a tight smile.

I can feel myself grinning wildly and I crawl over to her, placing my hands on her knees as she takes me in. She wipes away the flour covering my face and calms down to just a smile. She turns serious then. "Thank you." She says before kissing me.
