Melinda turned and continued walking to the exit. She almost got there.
"So you were just gonna leave without a goodbye? Without a hello?"
Daisy stood in the doorway of the last room on the left with her arms crossed staring at her SO. Melinda stopped and sighed.
"Cause you know, none of us have seen you for months. Or heard from you. The only way we even knew you were alive is cause Andrew said so." Daisy's frown and flashing eyes displayed her anger. Melinda didn't know what to say so she said nothing.
"Cause it's not like we were a team. Or friends. Or anything. Right?"
Melinda was taken back a bit at the bitterness in Daisy's voice. She started, "Look Skye...I mean Daisy. None of this is about you. None of this is about this." Melinda pointed around the corridor.
"Oh hell it's not." Daisy raised her voice. "What the hell Melinda? Seriously what the hell. You just going to leave without talking to any of us? Without visiting Jemma? She's back you know. Fitz went thru hell the last few months to find a way to get her back. This other organization is ...is...just...I mean you should be here. Talk some sense into Coulson. That lady with them, she's just...she's ...and he's... and that crazy guy killing inhumans. And Lincoln is out there somewhere. Bobbi's stuck here trying to get stronger and worried about Hunter, and you come back but than just freaking leave."
Melinda noticed Daisy's voice was getting louder and louder. She was shaking. Melinda took a few steps toward her.
"Look Daisy. It's not like that. You don't understand."
"Really? You left 6 months ago to go on a vacation with your ex husband and you never come back, instead he does? You don't call or stay in touch or visit. I asked Coulson if you were even coming back and he said he didn't know. I tried to call but your number was disconnected. And then I see you here and instead of an explanation I see you leaving. Again."
"Look Daisy I don' t owe you anything."
Daisy's eyes got large. She hesitated and then stumbled over her next words. "Nnnnoooo... I...I ..I guess you don't. I guess you...you made your choice and that's that."
"Seems to me it was you who made a choice first Daisy."
"So you are still pissed about that. Look May, I apologized. I never meant to hurt anyone. To hurt you."
"You didn't trust us Skye. You didn't trust your team. I am not angry. You decided what was important. That's fine. I accepted your apology. But change was inevitable. You know you cannot go back. All you can do is move forward and do your best to not repeat mistakes."
"So that's it? You were my SO. My teacher May. You should have called. You should have not shut us all out. Shut me out. We were like family. We are family."
Melinda sighed. "Look Skye. I need to take care of something. I have to go. I'm sorry."
"Yeah I get it. It's different now. I'm different. You're different. You can't go back. But we still need you. I still need you." Daisy was chewing her bottom lip. She wouldn't look Melinda in the eye. "I'm ...this...whole...thing...being in ...a leader ..with this new team, I am trying. But I ...Melinda it's not ...oh hell... please come back. I've had way too many people I care about not come back. It's just... "
"Daisy! I promise. I'll be back. We will talk more. I need to do this. I need to take care of something. Then I will be back. At least to see everyone and talk. Okay?"
"Okay." Then Daisy stepped out of her own comfort zone and stepped into Melinda's space and hugged her. Melinda froze, but after a moment put her own arms around her student and hugged her back. She pulled away first after a few awkward moments, and turned to walk out the exit. Daisy watched her leave with a small smile breaking across her face. Maybe things would get better after all.
