Happy Easter Whammy House!
Matt looked out of the window and yawned. What a day. He was about to flop back down on the bed with his DS, but then something made him look at the calendar. It was supposed to be Easter today! Well, that should cheer up Mello at least.
Oh crud. Easter means Mello would be expecting Easter eggs. And Matt had forgotten.
He looked at the clock; it was still quite early. His only chance was to go downstairs and try to make some chocolate.
Matt rushed downstairs, careful not to make too much noise that would wake Mello. When he got down the stairs, after much fuss: which, if Mello had not been such a heavy sleeper probably would have woken the blonde, he went straight into the kitchen of the Whammy House.
His first thoughts on entering the kitchen were about the mess. It obviously hadn't been cleaned recently. None the less, Matt cleared the worktop quickly. Well, I say clean, it was more like stuffing anything that was in the way into a cupboard.
He got to work. Now, what did he need to make chocolate? Cocoa powder, he was sure he'd read that somewhere. Now what else?
This was no use, he'd need to get a set of instructions. Okay… nearest computer. Roger's office. He tiptoed down the hall, trying to stay as quiet as possible.
"You're awake Matt."
It was Near's voice. This was really not the time…
"Yes, I need to stay quiet, I can't explain, sorry. Maybe I'll explain later. I haven't got time right now," Matt whispered back.
"Let me guess. It's Easter today and you are sneaking around early in the morning quietly. You forgot Mello's chocolate." It wasn't a question, it was a statement.
"Yes," Matt whispered quickly. He moved away from Near to get to Roger's office, and Near made no move to stop him.
"You know, I have instructions for a chocolate mix here."
Matt swirled around. Near held the instructions out towards him.
"I owe you one." Matt said, and took the instructions.
"Any time." Near said quietly.
Matt rushed back to the kitchen, and looked at the clock. Oh hell, it was almost time that Mello and the others were going to wake up. He poured all the ingredients into a bowl and mixed it together.
Eventually it made something that resembled chocolate slightly. He then tried to shape it into an egg.
Surprisingly all this didn't take that long, and Matt found himself going back up to his room with it, looking for something to wrap it with.
He found some tissue paper in his cupboard, and so he wrapped it up. When it was all done, it almost looked like a proper Easter egg, even if Matt did say so himself. He stored it carefully under his bed, and flopped back down on the bed. Then he lay there in wait for Mello to come in with his usual Easter excitement. He closed his eyes and pretended to sleep.
"Matt! Wake up, it's Easter!" Mello was bouncing around with excitement. "Coem on, let's go downstairs." Mello didn't wait for a response, but instead bounded down the stairs ahead.
Matt quickly stashed the egg behind his back and followed Mello down the stairs.
"Matt, here's your Easter egg!" Mello said, holding out a wrapped chocolate egg in his hand. Matt took it and thanked him, having first put Mello's egg on the table behind him. It was still invisible to Mello, until Matt stepped aside.
"Matt! You remembered! I never thought you would!" Mello was beaming. Matt smiled awkwardly, then noticed Near sidling in through the door. His face fell.
"What's wrong Matt?" Near asked. Mello, as usual, in Near's presence, frowned.
"Uh… nothing," Matt said, watching Near.
"Well come on Matt, let's go," Mello said, grabbing his friend by the sleeve.
As Matt was dragged out of the door, he looked behind him, to thank Near, and just for a moment, he would have sworn that he saw Near wink at him.
