"Harry?"
Looking up from his shepherd's pie, the bespectacled Wizard-in-Training gave his longtime friend a look. It was a look the girl had long ago learned to recognize.
"No 'Mione," he said after swallowing his food, "Dumbledore hasn't announced it yet."
"Wot you –gomp– two talkin' 'bout?" asked the third member of their little group, still occupied with a piece of roast. With a long-suffering sigh, Hermione turned towards a smaller redheaded girl across from her. Rolling her eyes, Ginny smiled as she cuffed her brother.
"Ow! Wot was that for?"
Harry only rolled his eyes at his friends' antics.
"Anyway, I was asking if anyone knew who was filling the DADA position this year?" asked Hermione, hoping to get the conversation back on track.
"I know I haven't heard anything," said Ginny, sipping her pumpkin juice. "I did meet a new friend, though."
"Really?" asked Hermione, curious. "One of the new first-years?"
"No, I don't think so," she said, thoughtful. "She looked like she was six or seven."
Harry blinked. "But what would a little girl be doing here?" he asked, confused.
"She said she was with her mum-"
The doors to the Great Hall flew open with a bang. A tall figure stood there, concealed by a long, black hooded cloak. Every eye in the Hall immediately trained themselves on the stranger.
Fingering his wand, Harry and the others watched nervously as the figure glided down the Hall, a smaller figure appearing behind the first. A faint jingling could be heard as it bounced along. The smaller figure then stopped, turning towards them. Tiny hands pulled back the hood, revealing silver eyes, glasses over a button nose, and dark hair pulled back in a pair of tails.
Ginny's face brightened immediately as she waved at the little girl.
"Students, your attention please," came the Headmaster's voice. From his seat at the Head Table, he stood, the dark figure standing before him. "Hogwarts School has long upheld a reputation for academic excellence, despite our recent misfortunes with our Defense classes."
By now, even the Slytherins were paying attention as whispers flew back and forth amongst the students. The little girl trotted over to the Gryffindor table as Ginny gave her a big smile.
"This year however, I assure you all, that we have had the greatest of fortunes to acquire the services of the very best," said Dumbledore. "Without further delay, may I introduce your new Defense professor."
With a dramatic flair, the cloak flew off, revealing a tall, slender woman. Her attractive figure was clad in what looked like leather and long silky hair fanned out like black flame behind her. Tall black stilettos enhanced her already long legs.
"Students of Hogwarts, please give a warm welcome to the bullet witch Bayonetta."
