Chapter 1
The cab pulled up to McGinty's and Danielle took a deep breath. It had been awhile since she had seen Gramps. He and her mother hadn't talked much in the last few years and she just wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before the inevitable happened.
Thinking about mom caused her chest to ache. It had been exactly four years and twenty-five days since they had found out her mother had collapsed and they had receive the news that she had Stage two lung cancer. She had fought her hardest, but two weeks ago she had lost the battle.
Danielle sighed wishing she were anywhere else. She loved her Gramps, but she wasn't ready to face reality yet. But she wanted to follow through with her mothers dying wish. Her mother had asked her to move back to Boston and take care of Gramps. She felt awful that she had, in some way, deserted him. Though she knew Gramps understood. Hell, he had told her mother to leave her dead beat dad and never come back for their own safety. But she didn't think her mom realized she was going to end up leaving Gramps too.
Danielle brushed the tears from her eyes before taking a deep breath and knocking on the door. It was only noon and the bar didn't open for a couple more hours. She heard some shuffling behind the door before it opened, revealing an old man with white hair and glasses. He hadn't changed a bit.
"Hey Gramps, long time no see." She said with a small smile.
"D-Da-Danielle?" he stammered out before, "FUCK...ASS!"
Danielle's smile grew. Yup, hadn't changed at all. He didn't mean it, he just had a condition.
"Yeah, the one and only." Danielle giggled spreading her arms.
"Well c-come o-on in!" he urged pulling me into a hug.
As soon as Danielle was wrapped in his arms she felt her walls cracking and tears filled her eyes, but she fought to hold them back. She was going to stay strong. Gramps pulled away and smiled sadly, wiping a stray tear that had escaped despite her efforts.
"I'll m-m-miss her t-too." He whispered. She nodded and was thankful he didn't seem to want to face it yet either. She finally realized that she wasn't the only one who lost something. He had lost his only daughter. They were the only family they had left.
"W-well, I've g-got the u-up s-stairs all ready f-for ya." He stated with a bit more cheer in his voice, clearly trying to up the mood.
"Don't forget Gramps, I only agreed to stay here if you'd let me work here. It's my payment." Gramps had insisted on her staying in the apartment above the bar, but when she asked him about rent he had refused to accept money, so they reached a compromise.
"D-don't worry. I-I-I rem-m-member. FUCK! Y-you'll be work-king the b-bar. ASS!" Gramps replied with a grin.
Danielle was pretty sure he was happy about the arrangement. They would get to spend a lot of time together, and he had promised her free drinks and insisted she take at least two nights off a week.
"W-we o-open at t-two, so just r-relax t-till then."
Danielle smiled and nodded giving Gramps a hug and a small kiss on the cheek before heading upstairs. It was a nice sized apartment. Nothing fancy, but it would do.
Looking at the clock she saw it was 12:30. Just enough time for a hot shower before getting ready for her first night. It surprised her how much better seeing her gramps had made her feel. If the stories her mother used to tell her about the bar were true, she had a feeling she was never going to be bored. Maybe this was exactly the reason her mother had wanted her to come back. She needed some more adventure in her life.
Business started out slow but it was 12pm and business had picked up. She had been feeling slightly nervous, yet excited for her first night. She had chosen a nice pair of jeans that, not to boast, made her ass look amazing and a plain and slightly fitted showing cleavage, but not too tight, black tank, and her favorite pair of black toms. She had straightened her long brown hair and was pleased that it hit her mid back. She had cut it short a few years ago, and she had missed her long locks.
To complete her look she threw on her silver diamond studded hoops and went with a nice shimmery gold eye shadow. The black eye liner and mascara made her light brown eyes pop. They had always been her favorite feature. She wasn't oblivious to all the men ogling her. She had a great figure. Not stick thin but not large either and she had a generous chest and ass. She knew they liked what they saw based on the tips she was getting.
"D-Danielle, could y-you r-run to the b-back and g-grab a c-case of Guinness. FUCK…ASS!"
"Got it!" Danielle ran to the back looking through the shelves, but not finding any. She made a note to order more in the morning.
"Hey Gramps, I think we're…" she paused when she realized a larger group of men had taken up the rest of the seats at the bar. They were clearly regulars because they were messing with gramps, but he was laughing right along with them. They all turned to look at her and she felt a little self-conscious. Especially when she was the two handsome men sitting right across from her Gramps, each giving her a once over with a slight smirk on their faces.
One had spikey sandy blond hair and the other had slightly longer brown hair. But they both had gorgeous eyes and appeared to be well built.
She quickly drew her attention back to Gramps, "Um, we're out of Guinness."
"W-well order some t-tomorrow. C-come h-here and l-let me i-introduce ya." He waved Danielle over and she complied hesitantly. She had never liked having a lot of attention on her.
"B-boys, this is m-my g-g-grand-daughter D-Danielle." Gramps gestured to me and then to them. "D-Danielle, FUCK, b-boys, ASS!"
They all busted out laughing and she joined in. That had just sounded wrong.
"Hey guys. Nice to meet ya." Danielle waved slightly with a large smile. Gramps outburst had lessened her tension.
Several guys waved back and the two men she had noticed from earlier winked at her, causing her to blush slightly.
"I'm Connor and this is me brother, Murphy. Very nice ta meet ya lass." Connor spoke in a thick Irish accent. Danielle felt butterflies in her stomach. She had always had a thing for accents.
"Hey Doc, ya n'er tol us ya had a granddaughter as gorgeous as her." Murphy commented, causing Danielle to blush a bit harder, and him to smirk wider. Gramps just rolled his eyes and went to get some more drinks.
"So, you said you're brothers?" Danielle asked trying to direct the conversation in a different direction.
"Aye, twins." Connor explained.
"Fraternal o'course. Too bad for Connor here though. He d'nt get me good looks." Murphy exclaimed.
Connor glared at Murphy and punched him in the arm and she couldn't hide her grin.
"Well, it was nice to meet you. I've got some tables to tend too." She smiled and walked back to her tables, feeling their eyes burning into her as she did.
For two more hours she walked around getting drinks, picking up empty glasses, and cleaning behind the bar. All the while aware of Connor and Murphy. Every so often she would look over and see that they were looking her way as well. She would smile and then turn away and get back to work to hide her blush.
"D-Danielle, w-why don't y-you head o-on o-out. N-not, FUCK, much l-left, ASS, to do. Y-ya d-did great t-tonight."
Danielle glanced at the clock and noticed it was 1:45am. Fifteen minutes left till close, and she was exhausted. The trip from Orlando to Boston was not a short one, and going from that to working with not much of a break had just increased that exhaustion.
"Thanks Gramps." Danielle walked behind the bar throwing the towel into the sink and giving her grandfather a kiss on the cheek. "See ya in the morning."
Danielle looked over to the few regulars still left, Connor and Murphy included and smiled. "See you fellas around." She made eye contact briefly with the twins before heading upstairs.
Throwing off her clothes and throwing on a oversized t-shirt, she collapsed on the bed letting sleep take her. Her last conscious thought was of the two Irish boys that had her heart racing, and hoping that she would see them again tomorrow.
