AN: My very first Terra Nova fic, I was a little nervous about writing this cos I know how much everyone loves Maddy and Mark and I love them too but I couldn't get this idea out of my head. Hope you guys enjoy reading it and sorry for any minor grammatical errors or spelling mistakes.

"Be careful out there Maddy and listen to Malcolm, he's your boss, okay", Elisabeth cautioned her young daughter.

"I'm always careful mom and I always listen", Maddy responded as she walked out the door.

This was a big day for Maddy Shannon. She was going to start her first day as Dr Malcolm's intern/assistant. She was going to join him in one of the outposts and help him with his research.

The convoy she was leaving with consisted of two rovers and around five soldiers. Too bad Mark was reassigned at the last minute, they would have had a lot of fun together, Maddy thought.

They started their journey early in the morning and it was pretty routine and quite.

Halfway along the way, the silence was broken by a loud shriek.

"What was that?", Maddy asked the soldier who was driving the rover.

"I don't know", responded the soldier.

They heard the shriek again. "It sounds like a Slasher", said one of the soldiers.

"Impossible, Slashers don't roam around these areas", Maddy responded.

Just as the words came out of Maddy's mouth, a Slasher suddenly appears from behind the trees.

"Stay in the car Miss Shannon", said the driver of the rover as he quickly got out and began shooting at the Slasher. Unfortunately, he was not fast enough and the Slasher tore him into pieces.

Maddy watched in horror as the Slasher tore the convoy and the soldiers apart piece by piece. She quickly got out of the rover and began running for her life screaming along the way.

She ran as fast as she could but she thought for sure her end was near. Suddenly she felt a hand pull her behind the trees. It was a man, a man she had never seen before. He put his other hand on her mouth to stop her screams.

"Shsh, otherwise we're dead", whispered the man.

They stood there until they were sure the Slasher had left.

"Who are you?", Maddy asked him

"Is that any way to thank someone who has just saved your life", he asked her.

"I'm sorry, I meant thank you for saving my life. I'm Maddy Shannon, by the way", Maddy said apologetically.

"Your'e welcome Maddy Shannon. I'm Lucas... Lucas Taylor", he told her.

"Wait, Lucas Taylor as in Commander Taylor's son", a shocked Maddy responded.

"The one and only", Lucas responded.

"But everyone said you were lost in the jungle", Maddy continued.

"Well congratulations Maddy, you found me", Lucas replied "and since your'e so good at finding stuff, I assume you can find your own way back to Terra Nova", Lucas said as he started to leave.

"Wait, your'e gonna leave me in the middle of the jungle...alone", Maddy said as she started running after him.

"You can't do that to me. Please you have to help me", Maddy pleaded with him.

"Oww...", Maddy screamed as she fell to the ground.

Lucas came running back "What happened?", he asked her.

"I think I twisted my ankle", Maddy replied.

"Your'e gonna cause me a lot of trouble, aren't you, Maddy Shannon", remarked Lucas as he helped her off the ground.

"Thanks", replied Maddy.

"Come on, lets get out of here, its going to be dark soon", Lucas said as he put his arm around her and helped her walk.
