I do not own any of these characters, I based many of them of DC and Werner Bros. tv series, "Young Justice," as well as the comics… I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. Please leave a review. Positive or negative, just any feed back so that I can improve ideas for next time. BTW: I know there are some dull parts in the story, but just keep reading… Also, I do focus on certain characters more often. Not that I don't like said characters, I love them all, but some just seem more fitting for the part at the time than others.
Dick looked at a Calendar in his room. He picked up a marker and crossed off June 9th. It was June 10th. The anniversary of his parents death. He went over to his dresser and opened a drawer. In it was his trapeze uniform from that night. He looked up on top of the dresser, where there was a picture of him and his parents. He smiled. The picture was the last one taken before going on that night. The last picture taken of the Grayson family. In the picture, Dick looked happy.
(The night)
"Ready?" said to his son 5 minutes before going on. Dick looked up at his father, "Noooo," Dick said sarcastically. grabbed his son and threw him over his shoulder. "You're too young to have that attitude." He said smiling. Young Dick couldn't stop laughing. "John, be careful. You don't hurt the boy right before going on," Dick's mom came walking out of a room chuckling at the two.
John put Dick down, who was still laughing. Mary couldn't help but laugh at her two boys goofing around. Dick was on the ground, still laughing, when the family saw a man approach them. "Graysons! A picture?" a guy with a camera said. The Graysons turned around and posed for the man with the camera. After, the camera printed out a photo. The man grabbed the picture and gave it to Dick. Dick looked at it and smiled. His parents stood behind their son looking at the photo as well.
When it was time to go on, Dick put the picture in his uniform, against his chest. "Showtime, Graysons!" The ringmaster yelled peeking his head through the curtains.
Dick walked out of his room, and down to the bat cave. Once he got down to the cave, he walked over to his Robin uniform. He grabbed it and walked over to a different room to start changing. Batman was on the bat computer, looking up files for other league business, as usual. He glanced over his shoulder, and saw Dick. Dick changed into his Robin costume. "Whats the point of doing this?" he said to himself looking at the mask in his hands, then into the mirror.
So many emotions were rushing into his head at once. He felt tears welling up in his eyes. Dick walked out of the room to see Batman standing there, arms crossed. "Why don't you take the day off?" he suggested. "Crime doesn't take a day off." Dick said brushing off the suggestion. Dick started walking towards a Zeta Tube across the cave. "Dick…" Batman said as he grabbed the boy's shoulder.
Dick stopped and took a deep breath. "I'm fine Bruce, really." Batman then slid off his hood mask and looked Dick in the eyes. "It's ok to take a day off," he said sternly. "I can't," Dick said. Batman watched as Robin walked over to the Zeta tube. "I'll be back later," Dick said.
Robin walked into the mount justice cave. Artemis, Kid Flash, Miss Martian, and Aqualad were all in a circle talking to eachother. They all looked over when Robin walked in. "Good. We're all here," Aqualad said. He walked over a few meters and an electronic screen popped up.
"There have been robberies of various Star tech and tech from other labs. Some of them can not be traced, but the robbers are predicted to hit at Wayne labs next. We are going on a mission strictly to find a motive. From there, the Justice League will handle it..." he continued talking. Ms. Martian looked over at Robin, who seemed to be staring off into space.
She wondered what was wrong. "Are you ok?" she asked Robin, telepathically. "Im fine," he responded, looking over at Megaan. Though Megaan knew not to read his mind, she still felt something was wrong.
The team loaded into the bio-ship. On the way there, Megaan still knew there was something wrong. Unknowingly, she stared at Robin for a little bit, as they sat flying. "I said I'm fine," Robin said to Megaan without even turning around to see her staring. "I'm just worried for a friend," Megaan said as she looked away. "You have nothing to worry about," Robin said looking at her. Robin turned back around in his chair and proceeded to look out the front window.
Suddenly, some force grabbed the bio ship, and it jolted, "What's going on?" Aqualad turned to Miss Martian. "Some kind of telepathic force is attacking. The ships trying to counteract it, but it's too strong." "Must be Simon," Robin suggested. The ship then plummeted to the ground. "Is everyone ok?" Aqualad asked as the team got out of the ship. "Is the ship ok?" Artemis said as she looked back at it. "She'll be ok," Miss Martian said. They crashed in a wooded area a few miles out from Gotham.
"We have company," said Robin, pulling out his staff. A bunch of men in black with black masks on came out from behind trees, surrounding the team. They attacked. Everyone had at least 5 men to take down each. As they were fighting, the team heard a laugh in their head. Then, "Simon says, good night." The team then stopped fighting, and dropped to the ground. Simon looked at Miss Martian and grinned. "Sweet, sweet, revenge," Simon said.
"But boss, how did you take her down… I mean, she beat you the first time," one of the men in black said to Simon. "It's the element of surprise, my friend. She is a powerful one, yet, so untrained," Simon said, "We will put them head on with their weaknesses. Then the light can take on the Justice League without the wannabes getting in the way." "Do we even know their weaknesses?" another man asked. "Yes," Simon said looking over at Robin, "I sense a special kind of weakness." He walked over to the boy wonder and stood over him with a smile.
The team woke up in an unknown location. They were separated in different, dark rooms. "Miss Martian," Aqualad said in his head trying to reach out to Megaan. Miss Martian woke up. She instantly linked the team. "Is everyone ok?" she asked telepathically."I'm good," Superboy said. "Yeah, I'm tied in a chair, but I can probably figure a way out." Robin said. "I am, too. What's going on?" Artemis said. "Are you guys in some kind of dark room, too? Or is it just me?" Kid Flash asked. "At least we're all alright. Everyone just stay whelmed." Aqualad said. "Does anyone know where we are?" Artemis asked. "Hold on, maybe I can get a signal on where you guys are," Robin said pulling his hand free from the rope tying it down.
He started typing the keys on his glove behind his back. "Nuh uh uh," A voice said as the telepathic link disconnected. Suddenly, Fire flared up in Miss Martian and Aqualads rooms, Kryptonite was uncovered in Superboy's, A metal box formed around Kid Flash, intending to make him burn out his remaining energy trying to escape, SportsMaster showed up in Artemis' room, and Robin stood there wondering what was going on.
Then, Simon walked into Robin's room. "What are you doing to them?!" Robin yelled. "It wouldn't be fun if I told you, now would it?" said Simon, "They're facing their biggest weaknesses. However, I saw a special weakness in your mind, Richard," He said with a devious smile.
Robin glared at him. "We will get out of this, and when we do, I swear…" "Oh bird boy, don't make promises you can't keep," Simon said as he walked over to the boy, covered Robins ears with his hands and looked him straight in the eyes, "Now, Simon says relax."
{In Dick's Mind}
"Where am I?" Dick said rubbing his head as he got up. He looked down, and saw that he was in his normal civilian clothes. Dick looked behind him and saw a black hair, blue eyed little boy walk out of a tent, smiling. Dick smiled for a second, but then he remembered what came next. "Get out of my circus!" Mr. Hayley said throwing a man out of his camper.
"You're gonna wish you had my protection," the man said smiling. "Yeah, yeah. Beat it!" Hayley responded. The man offering "protection" walked away from the camper and into Dick, pushing the little boy out of the way.
"Why didn't I say anything?" older Dick said to himself looking at the younger version of him. "I wonder that too," Simon said showing up next to Dick, "I guess we both know what comes next," he said with a devilish smile. "Get me out of here," Dick demanded to Simon. "Oh, but we're not done yet," Simon responded.
Next, they show up in two front row seats in the crowd. "Now I present to you, a trapeze act without the safety of a net, the flying Graysons!" the ring master said. A spotlight shined on three acrobats up high in the air. Dick's father started. He swung out. Next, Dick. Dick went through doing several flips and stunts that wowed the crowd. The kid even impressed present Dick.
Once Dick landed on a platform, it was his mothers turn. His mother gave him a hug before swinging out. "NO!" Dick yelled from the stands, knowing what comes next. "They can't hear you, Richard," Simon said with a smile.
The rope snapped and Dick watched his parents drop to their deaths... again. Dick ran out into the circle. He walked up two his parents and dropped down to his knees. Tears flowed his face. He turned around and watched as the younger him ran towards him and his parents. "MOM, DAD!" The kid screamed. Dick was feeling the exact pain he did that night. All over again. Then, older Dick became younger Dick. He grabbed the hands of his parents and held them to his face.
He said to himself, "It almost feels... real."
(Megaan's room)
Megaan was struggling to stay conscious as flames engulfed around her, making her weaker and weaker by the second. Suddenly, she noticed a pipe running on the ceiling above her. "Please be a water pipe. Please be a water pipe," she said as she struggled to raise her arm as she pulled down the pipe with her mind. Water sprayed through the whole room and put out the flames. She quickly struggled to get up. She sensed that Aqualad was the closest.
She ran down a hall and took a few turns. Suddenly, she heard the footsteps of a few guards. The guards cut her off. Though she still felt a little weak, she was still able to beat the four men in black surrounding her, fist to fist. She got to the room Aqualad was in and flew open the door. "AQUALAD!" she screamed.
"Megaan…" he responded with a faint voice. Megaan did the same thing she had done in her room. Burst the pipe. Once the flames were out, she ran over to help Aqualad up. "Thanks… Where's the rest of the team?" he asked. "I think the closest is Connor. "Let's hurry then," he said. Of course, they ran into more guards, but quickly got passed them. They barged in to see Superboy on the ground. Aqualad and Megaan rushed in, picked up Superboy, walked out, closed the door to the room.
"Where to now?" Aqualad asked, "Artemis is this way," Miss Martian pointed left down the hall. Connor groaned as he woke up. "We have to stay quiet. Nobody can know where we are," Megaan said. The two helped Superboy up. They ran to Artemis' room a few hallways away. They opened the door to see her fighting Sportsmaster. "You guys go get Kid and Robin, I'll help Artemis," Superboy said right before running into the room. "But Connor…" Miss Martian said as Aquaman pulled her away.
"We have to get them before Simon finds out. As we saw before, he could take us down with a thought," Aqualad said. "But the thing is," Miss martian said as she stopped Aqualad, "He has been in this building the whole time and hasn't done anything. Unless he's preoccupied with something else, He would've taken us down by now, or at least challenged me." "Preoccupied?" Aqualad said with wide eyes.
The two looked at eachother for a second, then took off running to Kid flash. The opened the door and saw a big metal box. They heard thumping from Kid trying to escape. "Kid! Don't waste your energy," Aqualad yelled to the box. "Aqualad? Thank God! Is everyone else ok?" Kid asked. "Superboy and Artemis are facing Sportmaster, and I'm here with Megaan," Aqualad said as Miss Martian telekinetically forced a hole in the metal.
Kid Flash walked out. "What about Robin?" Kid asked. "We still have yet to find him," Megaan said. "Let us do so before we get more company," Aqualad said running out the door.
Once they arrived at Robin's room, they barged in the door, not knowing what to expect. They gasped as they saw Robin tied up, with himself and Simon in a telepathic trans. Miss Martian flew over to them and started untying Robin. "Don't touch Simon, we don't wanna risk him hurting Robin," she said as she untied Robin. "Can you somehow join them?" Aqualad asked. "I think so," Miss Martian said looking at Simon, then Robin, "Protect us while I'm in there." Aqualad and Kid nodded. Miss Martians eyes then started to glow.
Miss Martian appeared into a tent. She walked outside of the tent. "A circus?" she asked as she looked at several clowns, animals, and people. Many were filing out of the main tent. "What's going on?" she said as she walked into investigate.
In the middle of the ring, Miss Martian saw two bodies, and a little boy in a leotard kneeling over them, crying. She slowly walked over to the boy. She was in awe of the two adults lying on the ground, dead. She put her hand on the shoulder of the little boy. The boy turned around quickly, and Miss Martian suddenly pulled her hand away. She noticed the little boy was Robin.
Saying nothing, she kneeled next to him. Dick look at Miss Martian kneel right next to him and then looked back down at his parents. She put her hand on Dick's shoulder, trying to comfort him. Dick looked back and flew into Megaan's arms.
Megaan held the boy. "You're ok," she said wrapping her arms around him as tears fled from his eyes. "Oh how touching," Simon said sarcastically sitting in a chair in the front row. Simon knew that the team was already free and that there was no point in trying to fight it out with the Martian. Simon snapped his fingers.
Robin and Miss Martian snapped out of the trance. The whole team was together after Sportsmaster escaped Artemis and Superboy. Robin looked at Simon as he got up. He took out a sharpened birdarang from his belt, and quickly grabbed Simon, tackling him to the ground. Robin held it to his throat. "Robin, NO!" Aqualad yelled. "Simon says, freeze," Simon said as the boy had him pinned to the ground.
The whole team woke up all at once. Simon was gone. Robin got up from the ground, still holding the birdarang. Miss Martian walked over to him. Robin dropped his birdarang, and collapsed to his knees, covering his face with his hands. "What happened in there?" Artemis asked. Megaan put an arm around Robin and helped him up. "Just a moment of weakness," Megaan said. "Let's just go home," Robin said to the team walking out.
Sportsmaster and Simon got onto a helicopter to make an escape. "We lost," Sportsmaster said in a serious tone, "We had ONE job." "We did have one minor victory," Simon said with a smile, "I believe I broke the bird." Sportsmaster looked at him with confusion. "Whatever. You're gonna be the one giving the report to the light."
{Mission Debriefing}
"By the look on your faces, I see the mission was not a success," Batman said over a monitor. "For the most part yes. They got away, but with no unnecessary coast to the team. We found that Simon and Sportsmaster were head of todays operation, confirming the lights involvement in an unknown plan against the Justice League, but at a small coast," Aqualad said as he looked over to Robin, who had his arms crossed, looking at the ground.
"Despite the setback, you got inside information and that's what the mission was about. I'd call that a success," Batman said to the team, "And Robin, meet me in the cave. Now." Robin nodded as Batman disappeared from the screen. "Get some rest, my friend. God knows you deserve it," Aqualad said as he put a hand on Robin's shoulder. "Thanks Kaldur. Thanks guys," Robin said looking up at the team.
Everyone left the room except Megaan. Megaan gave Robin a hug. "Thanks Megaan, but I'll be fine," he said. "Just making sure," Megaan said as she left the room. Robin walked over to the Zeta tube, and Zetad to the Bat cave.
Bruce was sitting in his chair at the Bat-computer, working again. He knew everything that had happened to Robin. Robin walked into the cave, took off his mask, and threw it on the ground. He sat down and put his face in his hands, between his knees. He was trying not to cry, but the emotional strain was becoming too much.
A few seconds later, he looked up and saw Bruce standing just a few feet in front of him. "I almost killed him," Dick said. Bruce grabbed Dick and pulled him in for a hug. "I know," Bruce said. "I saw him as the man who killed my parents. I was so mad. Like that night," Dick continued, "It felt so real. Exactly like that night. The pain just never goes away… I should've listened to you."
"I know what you're feeling. No, the pain doesn't go away. But…" "Why aren't you mad at me? I went against your orders in taking a day off, and I almost killed a man…" Dick interrupted. "Dick. If I didn't trust you to make the right decisions in this state, I wouldn't have let you leave the cave. Period," Bruce said, "Heck, I wouldn't even have asked you to be my partner. Understand that I don't see you as some defenseless kid. I took you in to guide you to make the right decisions. You were a talented kid with a great future ahead. I didn't want you to lose that." Tears continued to stream down Dicks face.
"You'll be ok," Bruce, said with his arms wrapped around his ward...His… Son.
