Max rubbed his forehead as he read what was on the screen. A summer assignment that he has to do… And he needs to get a good grade on it to be able to graduate college. It'll take up his entire summer!
"As you can see what's on screen right now, you all do have a summer assignment for the next semester," Max's professor announced as he paced in front of the students. "It won't be apart of any of your class grades but it'll be added onto your overall GPA for whatever year you finish it."
He cleared his throat before he continued, "It is a required assignment so if you fail it, you will have to do it again another summer. If you fail to complete this assignment, you won't be able to get your degree."
He clicked onto the next slide of the presentation before he continued, "Now, onto the details. You need to find a powerful trainer and you'll have to travel around with them in a region that is not Hoenn. While you're with this trainer, you have to accomplish some sort of great challenge, like participating in a Grand Festival or taking part in one of the regions' leagues."
After the professor said this, the room erupted into excited chatter while Max just held his head and groaned. The professor coughed with his arms crossed, getting back the attention of the students.
"After you finish this challenge, you will have to face your trainer in a battle and then they will rate how well you did," the professor continued. "You cannot use Pokemon you caught beforehand, you cannot leave the region before the time is up and you cannot leave without your trainer. Other than that, you are all adults so most of the assignment is open."
As the class started to talk excitedly once again, Max let out another groan. His mother is a bit overprotective so once he tells them about the assignment and having to leave… They'll make his brother go with him. And Thomas has become such a pain!
"This is going to suck…" Max muttered as the professor proceeded to take questions from the students.

Max sighed as he walked through the door, already done with the soon-to-be-had conversation with his mother. Thomas and Kevin were probably upstairs playing more video games and wasting their life away. Though it was impressive that Thomas was able to get his Sceptile to play games so well.
"Mom, I'm home!" Max called out as he set his bag on a chair in the dining room, ready to get some food after a long day of classes. He set the paper for the summer assignment down. He just had a week left of classes so he had enough time to get his person approved.
"Max!" His mother exclaimed and came running into the dining room, smothering the young adult in a hug seconds later. "How was school? Were you safe?"
"No worries Mom, I'm always safe," Max replied as he grabbed an apple from the bowl in the middle of the table. Yes, he had fruit that was not for a Pokemon, they do exist!
"I'm always going to worry, I am your mother after all," she replied as she took a step away from Max. "Especially after that accident."
"That accident is in the past and will stay in the past," Max replied sharply but winced a second later. "Sorry Mom…"
"It's alright, you have all right to be upset about it," his mother replied as she gave him a warm smile. She then noticed the paper on the table and picked it up, "Oh, a summer assignment?"
"Yeah…" Max replied with a sigh. "I'm going to have to travel another region with someone-"
"Absolutely not!" His mother exclaimed, interrupting Max mid sentence.
"B-But Mom, I need to finish this assignment or I won't get my degree and become a professor!" Max pleaded as he set down his apple. "I was even going to take Thomas with me!"
"I… Don't like it but I suppose I can allow it," she replied as she read through the paper. "But under certain conditions! First, you need to be by your brother the entire time! And you're going to Alola."
"Alola, why?" Max asked, confused. He expected the first part but not the second.
"Because I'm going with you and Alola is pretty connected between all of the islands," she replied. "Lapras could get me to wherever you are in a short amount of time so I can continue to protect you! That and it'll be nice to get a little vacation."
"I can work with that," Max said as he rubbed his chin in thought. "Alola is a beautiful place with lots of Pokemon that can be studied! Maybe this won't be so bad after all. But how will I get Thomas to agree?"
"You just leave that to me," his mother replied as she put on the smile everyone is used to. The 'I'm going to be nice but you will do what I say or suffer the wraith of a mother's love.' With that, she promptly ran upstairs and Max shrugged, getting the materials to make a nice sandwich. As he started to put the cheese on the first one, he heard some screaming upstairs… And he knew Thomas was losing the battle.
After Max heard an explosion go off, he knew that his mother had won… And that Thomas needs a new game system again. A few moments later, their mother walked down the stairs with a smile on her face as Thomas and Kevin followed her, soot covering the upper half of their bodies.
Max sighed to himself as he saw his brother. He really let himself go, Thomas used to have a slim and muscular figure but now he's overweight. Kevin is the only Pokemon that Thomas has that also let himself go, becoming an overweight Sceptile as well.
"So… Where do I sign?" Thomas asked as he shook away the dizziness that he was feeling. Max simply pointed at a line and handed him a pen.
"We were so close to beating the local high score…" Kevin complained as he leaned against the wall. It has been a few years since his family got the Pokemon Translators so Max was used to Pokemon speaking. He touched the earpiece in thought as he finished his sandwich and picked the apple back up.
"Maybe you should have paused it and came down like I said," Mom replied as she crossed her arms.
"It's not a game you can just pause!" Kevin exclaimed before flinching from the look he was getting. "Sorry Mrs. Greene…"
"So, Alola huh?" Thomas asked as he stood back up and gave the pen back. "Could be fun… But it sounds like a lot of walking…"
"And you know the other rule I set for you, Thomas," Mrs. Greene said before he could continue. "You can only bring Kevin with you. You'll have to catch other Pokemon in Alola, it's for your own good."
"I wasn't… Fine, fine," Thomas said as he started to walk back upstairs. "We'll be upstairs if you need us!"
"Thanks Mom," Max told her as Kevin disappeared up the stairs as well.
"No problem honey. Now! Let's start getting ready for dinner, it is getting close to that time."

Well, there's the first chapter of this new story. Just a little something to do when I'm bored and stuff, maybe it'll turn into something bigger than that, who knows. Anyways, here are the two main characters, Thomas and Max. And Thomas' starter Pokemon, Kevin the Sceptile. Not too much here other than the introduction. But next chapter, Thomas, Max, and their mother are going to Alola!
Thomas- Kevin (Sceptile)
Max- None
