He sits, staring at the water.

He thinks about what he did.

What Luke did.

But did it really pay off in the end?

So many dying.

So many friends dead.

She comes, slides next to him on the bench, holding out a

HUGE, misshapen, blue cupcake.

He looks confused.

"Happy birthday," she says, smiling. "Sixteen, right?"

Oh, he thinks. The prophecy. And it came true today, didn't it?

He clears his throat. "Back on Mount Olympus, when they wanted to make me immortal-"

She interrupts, her steel gray eyes sparkling.

"Oh, you so wanted to."

"Well, I kept thinking of something-"

Her heart pounds. "Something," she asks cheekily. "Or someone?"

She tries to act like she didn't really care, like it didn't matter what his response was.

But she's hoping. Hoping he'll say that it was all

because of her.

He complains (though she can tell he's secretly trying not to grin) and says,"

You are so not making this easy."

She grins back, because she knows.

His heart pounds as she twines her arms around her neck and says, "I will never make things easy for you, Seaweed Brain. Get used to it."

The pavilion is suddenly light upwith torches.

"The lovebirds need to cool off!" they shout.

And so Annabeth and Percy are d

in the lake.

Her face is red, she's sure of it. And, glancing over at him, he looks the same way.

But they're both laughing.

And afterwards, the *l*o*v*e*b*i*r*d*s* have the last laugh.

Because, when you're a son of Poseidon, who says you can't create a bubble at the bottom of the lake?

And of course, that was the best kiss of all.
