The Best Feelings in the World – A Token of Friendship from a Close Friend

It was a summer's eve and the hair was thick and heavy. All was silent apart from the sound of children giggling from the nearby park. 12 year old Hermione Granger sat on the old wooden bench just outside the entrance to the woods when her fellow 12 year old friend, Ronald Weasley, appeared beside her.

'Ron,' she exclaimed, 'what are you doing here?'

'Mum and Dad wanted to visit.' He explained, 'Well Dad did, he's fascinated with muggles you see, and Mum just got sort of dragged along. Can I sit down?' he gestured towards the empty spot on the bench next to Hermione.

'Of course' said Hermione, shifting along slightly to give Ron more space.

'Nice night,' said Ron rather awkwardly.

'Yes it is,' replied Hermione, even more awkwardly. What is he doing here? She thought to herself.

'Hermione?'

'Yes Ron?'

'Well, you know how we're friends,' Ron began, beginning to face Hermione.

'Yes, of course we're friends,' replied Hermione, already facing Ron.

'We'll I wanted to give you this,' Ron extended out his hand, turning it knuckles up. Hermione placed her hand underneath Ron's, ready to receive whatever it was he wanted to give her.

'What is it?' asked Hermione, holding it up towards the light.

'It's a necklace with a key to Burrow attached,' explained Ron 'The Burrow is what we call our home.' He added, seeing the puzzled look on Hermione's face.

'Okay, well why are you giving me this?' she asked.

'As a token of our friendship. Mum always says that the Burrow is welcome to any of our friends, come rain or shine. So I thought I'd give you this, in case we weren't in when you came round'

Hermione got up from the bench and wrapped her arms around Ron, pulling him into a tight embrace. 'Thank you'

'It's no problem at all' said Ron, the colour of his face now matching his hair.
