AN: I recently reread this fic and decided that I would rewrite it. The plot has good potential but I'm not happy with my writing. Hope you'll stick with me whilst I rewrite this xx

Lauren and James were perhaps the luckiest children on the Earth. Without a father, life should've been difficult, but they found that their mother's love was quite sufficient. Though they had been through tough times (like the time that a paid assassin broke into their house) they knew that there were children in the world going through much worse. Their life hadn't been easy at all and they often had times when they wondered if their father was living an easy life; it was times like these that they were most thankful for the loving, caring family that they did have.

Their mother never really mentioned their father, but when she did it was obviously a painful memory. Lauren and James were particularly perceptive when it came to reading people (a trait their mother said they had received from their father) and therefore had never asked about him. That all changed when they started high school. People were different in high school; they seemed stronger, more powerful somehow.

This made the twins easy targets, especially when they were asked about their father. It was their first day in English and they were given the task of writing about themselves. Lauren and James wrote of all the wonders they had seen travelling around the world with their mum and aunt. They were then asked to read their writing to the class. Everyone else had written about their mums and dads. Lauren had seen it coming before they had even started reading. They were going to be ridiculed.

"Lauren. Why don't you read the paragraph about yourself and James to the class?" Their perfectly polite English teacher asked

"Do I have to, miss?" Lauren asked

"There's nothing to be embarrassed about Lauren. I'm sure your paragraph is just as well written as everyone else's" She sternly stated

Lauren mumbled under her breath but complied to her teachers demands anyway; she knew that arguing would get her nowhere in this situation and her mother had always taught her to treat everyone with respect.

"My name is Lauren and I have a twin brother James. We're both 11 years old and were born in London. We travelled a lot at first and saw the most beautiful things, I will never forget seeing the pyramids in Egypt. We live with our mum but our auntie also used to live with us. She had to leave because she had work. My favourite memory is visiting Paris with my mum and aunt and my least favourite memory is when there was a mean man after us. My biggest fear is spiders. I like reading, especially the Harry Potter books and I dislike football. I'm really not that interesting"

The rest of the class were silent while Lauren braced herself for the comments that they were bound to receive. It took the teacher a few seconds but eventually she thanked Lauren for being brave enough to read in front of the class and tried to carry on with the lesson. Unfortunately, the rest of the class chose this moment to interrupt.

"What about your dad?" One of the girls asked

"We don't know our dad. We've never met him"James responded, still not seeing the problem.

The class stayed silent for the rest of the lesson and only spoke when they were asked to. Lauren was thankful for that but James didn't see the problem with the class knowing about their life history. It was only when the bell went for lunchtime that he finally understood.

The twins stuck together, just as they had when they were in primary school but that didn't stop some the comments that were thrown at them by their classmates.

"Orphans!"

"I bet your dad didn't want you!"

These were the most common of the insults thrown at them as they walked together through the halls of school. It seemed that somehow, the entire year knew that they didn't live with their dad and it was an entirely abnormal thing to everyone. Everyone except the little girl that had asked about their dad in class. She had approached them later on in the day and asked if they were all right; she apologised to them and told them that she hadn't meant to embarrass them. "It's fine" they'd told her, when in fact it wasn't fine at all.

That little girl's name turned out to be Meghan. It turned out that she didn't live with her mum, she had left her when she was 3 days old on the doorstep of her dad's house. She was a petite girl with tanned skin, flowing mousy brown hair and blue eyes that resembled the sky. This was a startling contrast to the twins fiery red hair, pale complexion and green eyes. The three became fast friends after that incident and that was the very beginning of their story...
