Disclaimer: No NCIS for me. CBS had not granted me any rights.

I'm restarting this story, and changing a lot of things. I'm taking down everything and starting over. Here is the first chapter, and I'm currently writing the second one.

The Watched Pot Never Boils, Unless You Wanted It To.

Prologue

"Char come on!" Ani exclaimed. "The ice is still solid!" To prove her point she stomped her foot on the ice. The ice didn't creak as she slammed her foot as hard as she could as against the ice. Char looked at it disbelieving.

"Here it is! What about in the middle of the lake? I'm walking around." Char started heading off, taking the long way around, instead of the most direct route, straight across. Go figure. Ani thought. I risk, one thing, that's all I want."

Ani ran after her friend. "Hey, Char wait up!" Char stopped and turned around to glare at her friend. "Char, I get it. You have fears but you have got to loosen up! Just because its slightly" Not the emphasis on slightly, "Dangerous, that doesn't mean you can't do it!" Ani was always trying to get her friend to do something to face her fears. Ani faced her fears almost every day, school work. Sure that wasn't exactly a real fear, but it was close.

Charlotte sighed. We go through this almost every single day. Ani always was trying to get Char to do something, and Char was always being stubborn enough not to do it.

"No." Char answered her, stubborn as always.

Ani shook her head. "You know what? Do whatever. I'll see you later." She waked away leaving a very upset Char behind her. Char walked off around again, trying not to run off to follow Ani. She was tempted just to show off her off, that she could do this. She could do all it, she was just a chicken, a nerd, pretty, but a chicken all the same. Couldn't Ani see that? She wasn't like her, she was much different. She made the grades, but she couldn't do what Ani wanted her too. She wasn't Ani. She stalked off.

Ani was a little made at Char. Okay, a lot. She never did anything fun! NEVER. She knew Char was fighting not to follow her across the ice. That's what she wanted; she wanted her to do something. She wanted Char to do this. The ice creaked a little under her feet. Well, just because Char was right about something, that didn't mean she was right about not wanting to come across the ice. Hang on, no, it wasn't her feet. It came from the other side of the ice. It obviously wasn't Char. She wasn't even on the ice. Looking around she saw a shadow dart across the ice, and disappear. Ani wondered about that for a few moments, and then she shrugged it off. Nothing unusual really, many others must hang out around here, it was spring break after all. Now, she could go back to her mulling. Or at least she thought she could. Just then a scream came out from behind her, a blood curtailing scream. What scared her was that it was she knew whose scream it was. It was Chars.

She turned behind her, ready to run to her, when she saw what was happening, why she screamed. A man, with a gun, and the gun was held to Chars head. Gun, Chars head. Gun, Chars head. Sometimes she wished life had a rewind button. Char looked like she was about to faint, and frankly, Ani wouldn't blame her. She wanted to run, but Ani was routed to the spot staring at Char. She was yanked out of her head space when the man spoke to her.

"Walk." The man commanded his voice making it very clear that he meant it. "Walk or she dies." And knowing she was going to scream out, "Any noise will get the same result." Ani knew he meant it. She was to afraid of what happened. She did as instructed. She walked.
