Kiss in the Rain
The rain had started again, making the air smell wet and earthy. They would have to wait to leave Kobol, letting the rain come to a halt before they were able to join the fleet again. Adama and Roslin were sitting together against a tree, rain seeping through the material of their clothes as it fell against them.
Laura closed her eyes and leaned her head back, a long, drawn out sigh of exhaustion leaving her lips. The feeling of raindrops against her skin used to be something she found soothing, relaxing. Before the attacks happened, she would linger outside, enjoying the way each drop felt. But now it was a reminder of what they couldn't enjoy; she was reminded of how much had previously been taken for granted.
"You okay?" she heard Adama ask, his voice bringing her away from her thoughts.
Laura's eyes slowly opened as an affirmative hum started in her throat. He didn't look convinced. But at the same time, Laura knew he wouldn't question her further; he understood. The thoughts she had were thoughts they shared. Battles and challenges were something they had to dwell upon internally, simultaneously putting them aside so they could make decisions nobody should have to make.
Laura looked down to the commander's hand, tracing it with tired eyes. Bill's hands were dirty, as were her own, but there was still something that made her reach out and cover his. It was only for a moment, not even long enough for him to grip her hand back. She wouldn't admit it, but she missed the connection, the feeling of another person. The realization made her sigh again, one different from the sigh earlier. This time there was longing and need, a need she easily tried to push away.
Bill didn't let her push it away, though. He took her hand this time, holding it firmly as his other hand went for her face, making her look at him. His gaze was too penetrating, too compassionate. It would be too easy, too simple to look away, so she didn't. She forced herself to keep her eyes locked on his, taking in each and every emotion he didn't bother hiding from her.
There was a quick warning in his eyes before he leaned in closer, his fingers brushing against her cheek as his hand went to her tangled, wet hair. Laura didn't pull away, nor did she help close the distance between them. She did, however, allow him to capture her lips in a kiss. Chapped lips caused the tentative touch of his mouth against hers to be rough, but still enjoyable.
He brushed his lips against hers a few times before Laura finally moved her lips against his properly, tasting the rain and saltiness of his mouth. She closed her eyes, trying to push away all the thoughts that were playing inside her head. As he kissed her, rain falling down her cheeks, he didn't know that there was a mix of tears; just a few tears, but still they were there. She cried for the loss of lives, and a part of her was crying from guilt. She didn't know why it felt so right to be kissing the same man who had locked her up in the brig, or why it felt so good to hear him moan in her mouth when her tongue caressed his - but it did.
He kissed her like he had been doing it for years, or better put, like he would be doing it forever. The thought made her kiss him harder, once again using the feel of his mouth to erase thoughts and images. They were fighting to live; they were fighting for civilization. There was no forever in sight, no happy ending for her in the future. Regardless of what happened, she would be dying. But as Bill caressed her lips with his own, Laura Roslin just wanted to feel what he was offering to her instead of the realistic thoughts that plagued her.
Laura Roslin wanted the chance to forget, if only for a moment.
The End. Thanks for reading!
