Zander just sang to the dog. Kacey stormed off. Nelson and Kevin followed her to film her rampage, leaving Stevie, Zander, and the dog (who I've named Spotty) still in the band room.
It was a perfect storm for an awkward silence, people assumed things and were wrong. There was tongue clicking, eyebrow raising, and unsure glances given. Both of them thought the other was thinking about the other, which was only half true. He/she was the subject of the thought while the other was the object of the preposition. i.e. Zander thought he embarrassed himself in front of Stevie. Stevie thought she embarrassed herself in front of Zander.
"Look, I'm really sorry," They said in complete unison then laughed, "No, you go!"
Stevie was the first to speak in turn, "I shouldn't have made assumptions that are completely stupid."
"They weren't stupid," Zander defended her because Stevie never thinks of herself (except for that one time which was just now), even when she knows what she did wasn't entirely wrong.
"Zander, they were really stupid." Stevie was defensive, but she never defended herself, "Think about it, you like liking me! It's completely mad! I mean, the song was for a dog! You wrote a song about a dog! Now that I think of it, it's not surprising I got me and a dog confused."
"The song wasn't about a dog," Zander coolly clarified, "It was for a dog."
"About. For. What's the difference?"
"When a song is about someone, it's when that particular person was the inspiration and the concept of said song. When a song is for a person, or let's say a dog for example, the song is directed at that person. The song was directed at Spotty, but he wasn't the inspiration for the song."
"Who was the song about?"
"Well who did Kacey think the song was about," Zander slyly hinted.
"Kacey thought the song was about Kacey." Stevie was disappointed and even more embarrassed because now she thought it was for Kacey.
"Well, Kacey was wrong. You were right." He swiftly grabbed Stevie's hand and in one motion spun her into his chest.
"Zander!" Stevie hit him and tried to pull away but Zander laughed, pulled her back in, and kissed her with a grin.
Stevie pulled away, hit him again, and yelled, "You are a pig you know that!"
"Would you say I'm 'a dog'?" He winked and they kissed again, neither one embarrassed anymore.
