Chapter 1: The Beginning of it All

Loki grinned. He enjoyed watching all the SHIELD agents run about, frantically searching for things and running into anyone or anything. He had recently hinted to SHIELD his whereabouts, but they didn't realize he was right here with them. Loki stared at his reflection in the mirror; his face was more feminine, his raven hair styled in an elegant updo. He was in his female form.

Loki took out her makeup bag, grabbing what looked to be eyeshadow, and applied an even amount on both of her eyelids. She put on mascara as well. When satisfied with her face, Loki looked down. She was in a light blue blouse, tucked into a tweed pencil skirt. She grinned. She was ready for her job interview.

"What's your name?"

"Oh, um. Lauren Olson. Yeah." Loki, or Lauren, hadn't thought of a name. Lauren Olson worked, though, and the guy interviewing her didn't care, more focused on her body than anything else.

"And why are you interested in working with SHIELD as a tech assistant?"

"Oh, well I've wanted to work with SHIELD for a while now, and I've worked with previous technology companies before."

"Mhmm. Okay. Well, you've already filled out the form and everything. I guess you're good to go."

After Lauren's job interview, she decided to grab a coffee from the local cafe. When she entered, she noticed a bunch of people surrounding a table close to the counter. As she neared, she saw Natasha Romanov. 'Ugh. This woman.'

Lauren ordered her plain black coffee, and grabbed a table in a secluded corner. Finally. A little bit of relaxation time. She pulled her laptop out of the beige bag she carried with her, and logged in. Her coffee was set down at the table, and then Lauren was caught up in her work. She didn't even notice when a girl slid into the seat across from her.

"Excuse me?"

Startled, Lauren looked up.

"Oh, hello! Can I help you?"

The woman sitting across from her was Natasha. Natasha fucking Romanov.

"Yes, as a matter of fact. Do I know you from anywhere? You look familiar."

"Ummm. I don't think so. I would recognize a face like yours if I'd seen it before." Lauren threw up in her mouth a little. 'Flirting.'

A slight blush crept up Natasha's face, but her expression remained steady.

"Sorry to bother you, miss."

With that, she left. Lauren let out big breath. Finally. She went back to her laptop work until five minutes before the cafe closed. She rushed out of the shop, and into a shockingly cold rain. Sighing, Lauren ran across the street, down the sidewalk, and down the steps to the Metro.

After the short subway trip to her stop, Lauren was finally at her apartment door. She could finally change back. Her figure flickered until Loki was standing there.

"Perfect."

Loki hung his bag on the peg behind the door, and walked to the bathroom. He chuckled at the sight of himself in his male form wearing makeup. He washed his face off, and dried it with a towel. He then proceeded to eat oatmeal and continue his research on the laptop.

Loki woke that morning to find himself slumped over his computer, drool on the keyboard. With a huge sigh, he got up to shower. He felt slightly refreshed afterwards. He ate a light breakfast and checked his email. A message from the SHIELD agent that interviewed him yesterday was sitting in Loki's inbox.

Opening it, a flood of relief smacked into Loki. He'd been accepted for the job.

Perfect.
