Title : Arachnophobia
Beta read by HollowSilence

I was working at the little desk in this closet they called a bedroom, trying to find a white paper among the dozens of white papers. A sigh escaped from my lips.
This mission was getting on my nerves. Having to stay in a gigai for a whole month was already hard to bear, especially those new gigai from Urahara shop that sucked the reiatsu. But having to share a so small flat with another man – and among the whole Seireitei it had to be Renji ! - was a bit more than I could handle.

A hesitant knock at the door interrupted my thoughts.
« Hai. »
Renji opened it slowly. That was a bad thing.
« Taichou ... »
He was searching for his words now, and couldn't look directly at me. Another bad thing.
« What's going on, Renji ? I didn't receive any message from the Soul Society... »
« No sir, it's just that ...well... » He held his breath and finished in a childish murmur :

« There is something in my bed. »

I raised an eyebrow. « Something ? »
It sounded weird. From the beginning of the mission, I managed to never get near this doomed area he had proclaimed to be his room. The strange thought that my vice-captain was trying to get me in his bedroom came in a flash and I tightened my muscles as if in danger.

« Yeah, I... touched it when I put my magazine away... It felt like... aspider... or something. »
I released my breath. So Renji isn't trying to trap me. He's scared.

I stood up calmly, doing my best to hold back a smile, and went to the dangerous beast.
As expected, the whole room seems to have been a battlefield. He withdrew some things to clear the way, staying carefully far from the bed.
I looked at it. Nothing abnormal.
« It's under the duvet... just next to the magazine... » I carefully touched where he said.
« You're right, I sense something...but if it's an animal, it doesn't move... »
He took another step back, ready to rush out of the room. I can't refrain from giving him a surprised look. Does he expect the thing – whatever it is – to jump at him from the middle of the bed ?

His face turned as red as his hair, and he looked away, almost turning his back to me.
« I... don't want to see it... » I profited he couldn't see me and let the smile spread on my face. My exuberant, loudmouthed vice-captain is arachnophobic... I know there is nothing amusing in it, but I can't help finding it cute. Gladly, nobody can read my mind!

Not wanting to keep him scared much longer, I withdrew the duvet in a wide move.

There it was, looking at me triumphantly.

A sock.

Note : This really happened to me, saving the fact that i didn't call for help (i'm not actually arachnophobic, even if i fear spiders). It was one of the most terrifying moments in my house, but after that i couldn't stop laughing, i almost woke up the whole house '
